My father recently got married to a long term girlfriend from Poland. She has come to live with us in Canada with her 14 year old son.

They are applying for permanent residency. We got a letter in the mail yesterday notifying us about the possibility of an interview - which, as I understand it, would have to take place at the Canadian Embassy in Poland.

I'm wondering.. surely this interview process is not for every single applicant. What, if any, are the criteria or "triggers", if you will, for the Immigration Officials to request such an interview?

Thank you

Susan

ps; in case you're wondering, we're hesitant about the possible flight costs of them going over there.

They will not call the sponsor for the interview but rather the principal Applicant for outland application.

I understand that ... I'm just wondering if interviews (with the primary applicant) are likely to happen or are unusual and usually due to some "factor"

IF they interview its usually to question the relationships genuinity or if there is a question they need clarifying in the application.. ie dates names etc.  Could also be about the persons security background.  Mostly interviews are done for applicants that have something that raise red flags for the IO.

If they want to question the relationship shouldn't the interview conducted on both the sponsor and the applicant.

if it is a question of the relationship being genuine, they will request an interview with the applicant....they have the option at their discretion to call the sponsor...so to that end it is just a phone call no formal interview in scheduled....if they are unable to get a hold of the sponsor they may refuse the application
