Hi,

I know that there are apartments that require a letter of employment but are there any that does not require one? E.g. People with WHV who arrive in Canada may not have a job lined up but need an apartment to stay beforehand.

You may also be required to produce a credit report also here in Toronto to prove your credit history.  It is difficult to remove a tenant here in Toronto so you need to prove that you can pay the rent.  Landlords do not want to take a risk.  Another tenant will be along shortly that does have a job, credit report and reference letters.  One method is to put up 6 months or 12 months rent in advance.  The landlord then has a lower risk.

But credit reports costs money and there's always probability that it does not work.  Look around and you might find a landlord who might waive the employment letter requirement.

In our case, we were required 3 months rent in advance...
