My girlfriend is currently on a single-entry tourist visa which expires October 25, 2011.  She wants to go home and visit her family.  We recently applied for a 6month extension to her single-entry tourist visa.  So my questions are the following:

1) If she receives the 6 month extension, will she be able to leave Canada before the expiry of her first visa (October 25, 2011) and cross the border on the visa extension? Or will leaving make the single entry visa along with the 6 month extension void?

2) Can she leave Canada next week without having her visa extension yet and then when she receives it re-enter on that?

Thanks!

In general, once she leaves she will need a new visa to reenter.

Yes she can leave, but see above.

What country is she a citizen of?

Thanks!

I am still a little confused.

Would the first visa extension be able to act as a new visa? Like she could leave on this current 6month visa and then use the visa extension she receives to re-enter canada?

No, she would have to apply for a new visa once she leaves Canada except when she leaves for the US or St Pierre & Miquelon, and comes back from these places only.

She can go to the US on this Canadian tourist visa?

No if she needs a US visa and does not have any. The only places she can go to (if she has proper authorizations) and be re admitted in Canada using the current single entry Canadian visa, are the US and St Pierre et Miquelon.

She can go to the US on this Canadian tourist visa?
