Hello everyone,

So, I've been reading the forums a lot lately, mostly because I mailed my application to my husband and don't have anything to do but wait for him to complete his portion (which will be done tonight) and mail it to Mississauga (which will be done tomorrow), then we join the very long line of hurry up and wait with the rest of you fine folks.

Anyhoo, since I've been reading the forums I've come across many confusing acronyms, and references to places and things that I have no understanding of, some I've worked out by reading more, and some I still sit there staring at the screen trying to figure it out.  I was wondering if there is a thread somewhere that has the acronym list, or the lingo list if you will?

Also, just so I get it straight in my head...what are the steps of this process?  Like, after CBC-M gets our application...I know that my husband has to be approved, and then my application will go to Buffalo for my portion of the process.  What are the steps within that process?  Do they communicate?  Is that what I need this E-Cas system for?  What is the code I keep seeing people refer to?  So much stuff.

Newbie doesn't begin to describe it,

They don't call them CAIPS notes anymore, can't remember what the current name is, but basically they are the VO's (visa officer's) notes on the application and people order them if they need an interview in order to prepare, or if they have to appeal a refusal.

Anyway, first your app will go to CPC-M, and you won't here anything from them until the sponsor is approved. Then they will transfer the file to Buffalo (in your case) and you will get an AOR from Buffalo, which just means they got it. Then you wait for a PPR. As far as I know, at CPC-M they decide if the sponsor is eligible and if your relationship fits into the criteria for a spousal sponsor (that you are common-law, married, or conjugal) and then at the foreign VO they decide if the applicant is allowed to enter Canada (medical and background check out) and that your relationship is genuine and not a MOC (marriage of convenience).

Hope this helps!

Thank you both for kindly for replying Smiley.

I am starting to understand.  I was happy to see the new today about the PPR going away for Visa exempt countries, as I imagine that will cut down on some of the steps.

How soon can we start checking the e-CAS system?  And what do I need to check it?

And yes, I am absolutely preparing to stalk Canadian Immigration.  Smiley

You will be able to start checking e-cas sometime after the sponsor is approved. I would not put much stock in it though, as it is notoriously unreliable. I'm not sure why it exists to be honest, in my experience, it is fairly useless. But I suppose it some situations it can be helpful. You can log into e-cas with your UCI (will be at the top of the letter/email regarding sponsorship approval) and the sponsor's info, or with your file/application number (also at top of letter) and the applicant's info.
