Layoff of live-in caregiver

Our circumstances have changed and we no longer require a live-in caregiver. We need to terminate her employment, she has been with us for 18 months. What does she need to do? can she get employment elsewhere or will she have to go back to her home country?

for your live-in caregiver, she can look for another employer who needs to file another LMO for her and apply for a new work permit.

Thank you for the link, it's very helpful. We have not given her written notice yet. We plan on giving her 2 weeks notice once our kids have returned to school.

Just want to share my insight as a fellow caregiver.
If I were your caregiver, I'll be depressed in all aspect. The application for a new LMO and new work permit( from a new employer) takes forever and who knows if she could get one .
Why not give back the love by finishing her contract till her 24th month and so all she has to do is apply for her permanent residency and an open permit that will allow her to work with any employer.
After all, if she have been very good to your family, it is fair and just to have consideration in her status here.

Thank you for your feedback. I did consider this option, however I know that she is definately leaving our family in February, I don't know if I will be able to get my youngest child into a daycare at that time. We fortunately got a spot for September (was on waiting list for 9 months), I can not afford to put him in daycare and continue to pay a caregiver for the next 6 months. My son is speech delayed and our speech language pathologist and family doctor have recommended that he be introduced into daycare to improve his speech.
