 hi guys ,
                       * my case has taken a lengthy time and i called my attorney and asked him to check that if there is some prob/hold on my case..!!  he told me that he wil and he guarantess that he will get my case doen quikly now 'as so long time is gone', but if i  pay him my rest of balance fee ,which i paid and i only hav to pay rest 400 .
my question is .. is he saying rite that if i pay him rest , then he will get help our case done quikly ? how and what kind of role a lawyer can play in finishing a case except sending a status follow up to embassy ..?? though hes  a famous law firm. please reply .. is he just saying it that i pay him rest or he really can do something ?? thanks .

As far as I know, Lawyers can't speed up immigration processes regardless of how much you pay them.

Thats correct. A lawyer can't speed it up at all. And they aren't worth it if you have a straight forward case

Having a lawyer will only SLOW DOWN the flow of information (and not necessarily the process) as everything will go through the lawyer before it comes to you.  Hopefully the lawyer is prompt.

Hi,
He is full of crap. He can't do any magic with the CIC.
Just make sure that your file is being processed, meaning he sent the forms and u have confirmation and the PR is in process.
Email you MP and he can inquire but not speed up, but it will stir things up.
Lawyers can not assist with anything once the forms have been mailed. Don pay him a penny until your case is finalized.
I know a lot of lawyers in toronto do the same trick..pay me half now and pay the rest after PR..once u contact them for a delay, they make it sound like its the remaining payment which is slowing down the case..
all the best and contact your MP with timeframe and details.

Good luck

This sounds like the type of shakedown lawyers in less professional countries try.

Your lawyer seems to be saying that he is working relatively slowly on the case, and only the second payment will make him work at a more professional pace -- as he no doubt promised when you first hired him.

Ask your lawyer to explain in writing why paying now -- rather than after getting PR -- will speed up the process. I'll be he won't put it in writing, but it's worth a try.

Tactics:
First, send him an email, and hope he replies by email. Then -- if he replies by email -- tell him you don't understand the brief explanation, and ask him to explain more thoroughly in a letter.

With an explanation in writing, you have evidence to take him to task with the provincial legal association.  Once you mention this possibility, that should light a fire under him and get you the speediest service he/she can provide.

However, the others are right:  he/she can't do  much to hurry CIC.  Only a bottle of fine wine, delivered to the visa officers at the embassy, will do that.

lawyer wrote >>Please let me know how you wish to settle this so we can process your acse to a successful conclusion.

We do not expect difficulties.

I await your response.

so, what should i do in responce? first of all i dont see that they worked good or enough on file.its already in process in embassy at Islamabad office. example if i ask him that i pay him after PR's approval ,, can he send any letter to embassy to make a trouble for my case ?? plz reply .thanks

As I explained in my precious email, ask your lawyer to explain how paying now, rather than when PR is obtained (as agreed originally) will make the case go faster.

Then report that response here.

But do not pay the lawyer now; he is shaking you down in a most unprofessional manner.

I had a very straight forward case but we got a lawyer just in case.

We paid a small retainer fee on the first meeting, then half of the balance owing when we dropped off all relative information for the application, then paid the remainder of the fee when the forms were submitted.

That lawyer seems shady to me.  No matter when you pay your fees it will not affect your application time.
