Hi  I am pretty new to this site and we have each just had the medical (2 weeks ago) and paid the landing fees.  I have a job starting in January and would like to know if I can land alone as the principal applicant and my wife and child follow on at a later date.  If my wife and daughter do not manage to achieve 2 years in five do all of our PR visa's or just theirs get cancelled or will it be purely dependent upon me achieving 2 years as the principal applicant.  We don't have the necessary settling funds, but as I have been offered a permanent job, I believe that this is waived (I have a written employment contract).

Yes you can land first and then your family but before the expiry of the visa. Your family members are responsible for their own PR status that is they have to live in Canada for 2 years. If you have a job offer I dont think you need the settling funds....Members please comment.

According to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp you don't need to show funds if you have employment.  Show them your contract.

The principal applicant needs to land before or with the other applicants but after they all land, there is no primary applicant anymore and each person becomes responsible for keeping their residency requirements or lose their PR.

The only thing different for a child is that if one of the parents has fulfilled the 3 in 4 years requirement to apply for citizenship, they can apply for citizenship also for their minor child who is a PR, even though the child has not stayed 3 in 4 years.

Thanks for your help, CIC have finally replied to my email stating exactly the same, although they did not comment on the settlement funds.
