Hi Qorax,

I have come across so many banking accounts for new immgrants. All banks have new immigrant services. Many of them have clause, hidden charges, which we fail to see.   In your opinion, which one have found the best for new immigrants.

I shall really appreciate your guidance on this.

Dear Captain,

Thanks for the info on mobile!!

What technology WIND mobile is of, does it GSM if so which Band, I am hearing in these forums that for Wind we need to buy new handset?? why we cant use our own? Please suggest

Meanwhile I found a comparator  comparecellular.com/plans-and-services/ (pls include www as it was not allowed)
I hope this would be helpful (if so, it would be my first tiny contribution as I am only asking to you and other seniors till now)

Thanks,

1. Most newcomer's bank a/c packages come with a Free Locker for 1yr. Scotiabank, TD Bank, BMO, CIBC etc all provide that facility.

2. U'll need 2 sets of the jewelry pics. One they'd keep, while 1 they'd return to u... Stamped. Ditto for the form B4.

Qorax

Many thanks for sharing the valuable information.

TD Canada, Scotia & CIBC r the best due to their visibility everywhere and any no of ATMs. I'm with TD. It is pretty good.

Wind Mobile is neither a GSM or a CDMA. They use UMTS, which is a higher frequency than 3G, and is currently used only in Data Cellular for most carriers. Wind is tapping that potential on Voice. That's why u need to buy their handsets, which r specifically made for Wind.

Meena,

The landing papers u recd is the 5292. The B4 can be obtained from the CBSA website, I have provided the link on the OP.

Good luck.

Posted as a separate Post, but maybe should be here too.

Hi folks, I need some clarification here....
Here's the situation:
The principal applicant lands in Toronto at 9:00 am.  The dependent lands in Niagara Falls the same day at 10:00 am.  So the rules are being followed, the principal applicant landed first, and the dependent landed afterwards.  But can this really happen within an hour (or a few) timeframe?
Or, say the dependant landed at another point of entry 15 minutes later?
I would imagine that once the principal applicant has landed, that information is entered in their system and should be visible to any other CBSA offices.
Any inputs on this issue?
Thanks!

 @  qorax

I wish to open my account in  bank of NS, do they issue credit card to new account holders? if yes then what is credit limit? As I guess they issue a credit card of 1000 CAD limit, but I also heard  that most of the Canadian banks don't issue any sort of card to new comer!!

Banque De NS is good, but I do not have any info on them, as I didn't research them at all. Here, Scotia, TD Canada & CIBC r doing very well, so is BMO -a shade lower. I'm with TD & have got an 'unsecured' Visa Cr Card for $5k (heard that usually they provide a starter card for $500 to everyone). Secured ones can be had for any limit, as desired, though.

Fido Vs. Wind Mobile
Advantages and disadvantages.............

As i know for wind : advantages are-

No contract. Yes thats the best part, no contract , not even hidden terms and conditions. There is no contract at all at any time on any plan ever.

No System Access fee

No 911 fees

Caller ID, Call hold/wait/forwarding is all included in all plans. 100% no catch or hidden fees on any of these.

Local call is province wide. Not just the city you are located in.

Wind number to Wind number is 100 % unlimited as long you are in Wind network. (On the screen you will see WIND Home. When you see WIND Away it means you are in roaming scenario)

Incoming SMS is always free irrespective of anywhere you are (Roaming, International or in home network) or any plan you are subscribed to.

As long you are in coverage area depending on your plan, you get 100% free what is mentioned on the plan

If you go out of coverage , you get charged roaming rates , which is 0.25 cents per minute for voice and if not mistaken 0.15 cents for SMS.

Disadvantages:

Customer Service is pathetic.

Secondly they do not cover GTA, infact major areas of GTA are still not covered. So if you are in GTA and not in proper Toronto you will keep paying roaming whatever charge it may be.

V have to use their handset.

For Fido advantages are:

They have 2000 Mins for $40.

Easy 1.3Hrs/Day.

Covers all GTA.

Kindly share experiences! Plz advice the best 1.
