Please help me.. Do you know what our that documents sent by VO manila. Qorax, I have a question on proof of funds. i understand that we need to declare funds in excess of CAD$10,000. Is it per family or per person basis. what i mean is that if my wife and i have CAD$8,000.00 each or an aggregate of CAD$16,000. Do we have to declare it or not?, Thanks

1. What's wrong with flag-polling? No POE will permit 'landing' w/out exit/entry - that's exactly what flag-polling is all about today.
2. If u have a job - u don't require to demonstrate the POF. Yes, that scholarship letter will work.
3. Yes, u can visit the US, w/out PR cards. All u require is a tourist visa, if u aren't from a visa exempt nation.

Qorax

Thanks a lot Qorax

I don't want to do the flagpoling because I have a valid SINGLE entry US visa and I am afraid they cancel it and say welcome to the US!! Because there is no reason they refuse me from entering the US.

I have heard at Fort Erie you can make a U-Turn just before the bridge and don't have to go to the other side.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

U get 'one' Declaration Form per family in the flight... that field for funds is in that 'one' form... so, it means it's for the entire family.

BTW: Why do u guys have any issues with declaring the funds? I've observed that many ppl get a cold-feet on that... why?

That 'U-turn' thing has been dispensed with every Border Posts... for security reasons. Nowadays, u have to enter the US BP & get the 'refusal' note. AND THAT'S CALLED 'FLAG-POLLING' CURRENTLY.

At first as i read the cic page regarding POF I understand it as per family but it was not stated there word for word. However, I got confuse when one member share his landing experience and told us that it is per person as also discussed in pre-departure orientation seminar. they brought CAD$16,000 and didnt declare since they had divided the funds at CAD$8,000 each. They maybe lucky since they have get away with it.

I want to share what i just read from E667 (Cross-Border or Monetary Instrument's Report -Individual). It says at the back portion that it is per person.

Reporting Requirement
The Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act requires of
every person or entity the obligation to report to CBSA the importation or
exportation of currency or monetary instruments of a value equal to or greater than
$10,000 Canadian (or its equivalent in a foreign currency).

However, in my case, I will declare the aggregate amount we brought. anyway we can prove that it is really ours and better be safe than be sorry.  Thank you for your inputs.

Thanks a lot Qorax. I phoned the Fort Erie point of entry and the officer confirmed what you just mentioned.

So I have to wait for a month until this damned conference begins.

Yes.
Else it'd attract customs duty... that's quite heavy!
