dear QORAX how r u ? please advise me i want to bring crockry in carton.is it allowed to take cartons in aeroplane.
1. Like steaky suggested - they r permitted. 2. Like AspirantC suggested -- they'd "waste" your baggage allowance. 3. I say -- most of those'd 'break' if sent thru check-in baggage, it'd just not be worth the trouble. BTW, crockeries/cutleries cost dime-a-dozen here. The local Dollar Store might be all u need! Qorax

You dont need PR card application form and Goods Accompanying list but only goods to follow list, if some of ur goods come through shipment.

is it really ?

If I don't have physical address from friends, any other methods to receive PR card from immigration department? I searched post here and noticed that UPS store could accept registered mail (PR Card) from Canada Immigration department and forward to me. Is it true? Is it safe?
Thanks in advance.

Hello qorax and also to others who might be able to help, We will be landing in Vancouver 2 weeks from now via road on a rental car (will only stay there for 5 days and come back to US after). I have a car now here in the US (not yet fully paid). I don't intend to bring it to Canada when I "finally move" sometime in 2014. However, I have a very solid plan that I will purchase a new car this February 2012 and intend to fully pay it by 2014 and eventually import it to Canada in 2014 during my "final move". My questions are:
(1) Can I include the new car in my goods to follow list upon landing this June 2011 even though I haven't purchased it?
(2) If #1 is not possible, is it possible to just include my current car in my goods to follow list and then by 2014, say that I replaced the car with a different car and will not also be dutied?
(3) Failure to include the new car in the goods to follow list -- will this mean I will be dutied in 2014?
Thank you so much for all your help!

Thanks for the link, steaky...and thanks to qorax for providing that detailed info on importing cars upon landing. However, I will not be importing my car at this point of my first landing. My question mainly dwells on whether I can include a future car purchase in my goods to follow list for my first landing. Or what if I replace the car listed in my goods to follow list with a different car?

Unfortunately u can't do that. The ' facility' of GTF/GAL [form-B4] is to assist new settlers to bring-in their ' current possessions'. It's not for future purchases - to which we r required to pay duties/levies. Qorax

Hi Qorax, I read in one of your threats that Bank Statements from the US are enough as proof of funds when landing. I have a savings account with Bank of America with a large amount of money (due to selling two properties in the US two years ago). Do you think that they will accept that. If they do not, could they deny me the right of Permanent Residency? I could just bring $14,000 in cash with me, but I would rather avoid walking around with so much cash. Any other option such as TC, or DD are a bit of a waste due to exchange rate and the fact that I cannot move permanently until later in the year, but I need to do formalities by end of July. I also have a bank account in UK with enough money as proof of funds. Should I bring both American and UK? Quite worried about this issue. Thanks for your help.

1. Bank statements r not the advised mode. The BSO might decline accepting that. 2. However, it's observed from many posts that they [usually] do accept these statements from US & UK. So, the choice'd remain yours. 3. If u have to, then anyone a/c [US or UK], which has the required funds, could do. Qorax

Thank you Qorax. If I decide not to take the risk, do you think it is a good idea to get a Bankers Draft for the amount I am required to take for 2 (i.e. around 14,000 CAD). Can this bankers draft be in GBP for the equivalent amount.
I am only going there to do the landing formalities, so I would be taking back my bankers draft and put it back in the account where it came from. Is that possible? Should I put my name down as the Payee for the draft?
I have been trying to find info but not clear information, even from banking websites.
Thanks.
