thank you

#Draft drawn on the same bank - same city : Credited in 24 hrs.
#Draft drawn on the same bank - different city : Credited in 48 hrs.
#Draft drawn on different bank - same city : Credited in 72 hrs.
#Draft drawn on different bank - different city : Credited in 1 week.

Dear All,

We have a big problem, just now our youngest daughter was confined in the hospital with Primary Pulmonary Tuberculosis, she's 2 years old. We are scheduled to land on next week. If we think she can managed to travel and we intend to bring the medicines prescribed by the doctor for 6 months, is there any problem with that? Or should we not take the medicines and purchased those once we successfully land in Canada?

We are planning also not to take our daughter with us and will fetch her later but the problem is our visa will expire on 4th May 2011.
What should we do, our excitement was all gone...please help!

Thank you!

1. Everyone of u must 'land' before the expiry of the PRVs - else s/he will LOSE IT.
2. U r required to info the CIC of any health issues before landing.
3. If u info the TB situation now - the CIC will STOP u from entering, until she is medically Fit.

This is a situation only u can decide.

All the best to the Kid. I'm sure she will be perfectly alright soon!
Our prayers r with her & u all - the family.

Hello All,

I am following the posts regarding landing for quite sometime and now my time has come !!
Thanks to Qorax/Leon and the other members for making it so informative and useful for Canada aspirants like us.
I am (originally from India) landing in Toronto from US next week –along with my wife - will stay for 4 days and will return to US to return permanently at a later date.

Taken care of the following:
1.   USD 14,000 Cashier's Cheque from Bank of America, rest in USD cash
2.   Preparing B4 and B4A forms with photos
3.   Applying PRC at airport ( PR Card Application (IMM 5444E) will be filled by IO)
4.   Staying in a friend's house for the 4 days
5.   Rented a car from Toronto Intl Airport
6.   Will apply for SIN on arrival
7.   Will open bank account

Questions:
1.   I have to fill the disembarkation form in the plane, is there any other form which needs to be pre-filled by me?
2.   Do I need to fill/update anything on the COPR form before landing?
3.   Will the US DL work for the 4 days I drive the rental car
4.   I read that OHIP needs a residence proof -> if I open a joint bank account and get a bank statement with a address on it, will that work for applying for health insurance? I can say that I will stay in my friend's house for next 6-12 months..
5.     My wife is an Architect (B.Arch from India) with a MS in Construction Mgmt from US. 3 yrs work-exp in US. Does anyone have any idea on the job opportunities for Architects in Toronto? Will the US degree be valued in Canada?

Responses/suggestions will be much appreciated. Let me know if I am missing anything.
Thanks,

Hi,

1.   I have to fill the disembarkation form in the plane, is there any other form which needs to be pre-filled by me?
No, nothing else.
2.   Do I need to fill/update anything on the COPR form before landing?
No, nothing... the BSO @ POE will do the needful.
3.   Will the US DL work for the 4 days I drive the rental car
Yes. U can 'convert' it [to a Canadian one] over the counter too, if u so desire.
4.   I read that OHIP needs a residence proof -> if I open a joint bank account and get a bank statement with a address on it, will that work for applying for health insurance? I can say that I will stay in my friend's house for next 6-12 months.
The bank statement would work -- but, don't say that u reside @ friend's - it'd be a deal-breaker.
5.     My wife is an Architect (B.Arch from India) with a MS in Construction Mgmt from US. 3 yrs work-exp in US. Does anyone have any idea on the job opportunities for Architects in Toronto? Will the US degree be valued in Canada?
She'd be fine here... the US Quals & Exp r counted/credited.

Good luck!

Hi,

I finished my landing formalities on October 31st and had given my friends address for the PR cards. I have not revieved them till date. I called the call center and the automated response states that it takes about 140 days to process the PR card. Is it true?

Anyone who landed on of after November 1st 2010 have recieved your PR cards?

Regards

Hi Qorax Sir!
We landed here in Toronto on the 25th of Feb,finally got to experience the snow. We'r put up in a guest house here for a month, much closer to Malton, my son attended his first day of Senior KG today.....things are really fine. Thanks a lot for ur valuable guidance and advice, I was really appreciated by the customs officer for my lists, thanks a lot for all the info that made our trip hassle free. We have just started our job hunt here, and are planning to start our licensure process too (both my husband and myself are dentist).
Thanks for all the support.
Warm regards,

Hi Qorax,
I received passport request from Buffalo. The photo requirements in the passport request mail was (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/photospecs.asp) the size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 31 mm (1 1/4″) and 36 mm (1 7/16″).

The new spec for PR card according to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5445EB.asp is measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown (top of hair).

The two specs are totally different.

I am in US. I plan to land ASAP I get the visa.

Does CIC, Buffalo use the photo we send with passport for PR cards or do we submit separate photographs while landing? If photo sent with passport for visa stamping is used for PR card, the photos are automatically rejected. If we have to submit separate photo while landing , then its ok.

Qorax, will you please advise?

1. The COPR pics r the same as for PR cards.
2. Relax, that minor diff may not entail cards rejection, unless the pics r over/under exposed & u r out-of-country [purely my take].
3. It's wise to carry some addnl pics while landing -- if the BSO desires, u can hand them over.
