Another Ottawa convert

hi aljarreau,
i fell in love with ottawa for all the reasons that teddy had said. not as big as toronto but not too small either. public transport is very good but not perfect as sometimes the buses are late especially when its raining hard or when its friday. it does have a european feel to the city. most of the residents here are nice and friendly but ofcourse not everyone you meet will be. i am proud to be living in the capital and it gives me inspiration. good luck!

i have heard in Ottawa there are no jobs for new immigrants due of lot of government jobs which required security clearance that the new comers don't have yet. The question is now how are new comers doing regarding the job offers? It's perhaps wiser to land in another town, stay there for a while in order to have security clearance for Canada and then move to Ottawa definitely?

Hmmm, I work in the health care industry so I did not have to go through all the rigorous screen tests to enter the government. Maybe if I applied to a government hospital it would be different. I don't even speak french.

From what I observed when I came, Toronto does offer more survival jobs and if I weren't lucky to have found a job in Ottawa then I probably would have taken the job offer in Mississauga instead.

Sounds smart to stay in a place where you will be able to find a job first and then move somewhere else if you still feel the need to. But from stories of other immigrants I have met, it will be difficult to move once you've found a job and leased an apartment. Most of them end up staying wherever they first got jobs.
