Hi guys!  I hope you are all having a great afternoon.

I just have a quick question.  I'm in Canada with my husband, and I plan to drive to the border and land next week.  I was wondering what our best option is - to rent a car, or to take my husbands.  Which will be less problematic?  iamrobot's story has convinced me not to try to do it in my car, or I may get stuck on the other side of the border.

My husband may not be with me when I land.  He can't enter the United States, so I'm going to have to drop him off on the Canadian side of the border, land, and then pick him up again.

If your name is on the Canadian vehicle as a registered owner, you can drive it into the States - but otherwise, they won't let you.  I ended up hitching a ride with my mother-in-law, in her car, because my husband doesn't have a passport yet and couldn't drive me in, and the car we have that I'm a registered owner on was in the shop.  Hubby just waited for me at the border office, and we turned right around and came back.

You could do like we did - drive down to the border together, stop on the Canada side of the immigration office and have a cab meet you there (instead of mum-in-law), drive you into the States and right back into Canada again and drop you at the Immigration office again.  Then you do your landing, and you and hubby drive home again.

DON'T forget to include your vehicle on your "Goods to Follow" list and have that to submit to Customs right after your landing - otherwise, when you do import it, you'll have to pay duties on it.
