Hi,

I need some information regarding landing then returning back to Canada.  Once we are landed in Canada (Vancouver), can we travel overseas a few days afterwards without any problems returning to Canada, or do we need to wait for our PR cards to arrive first?  Is there a form we need if we want to leave Canada while the PR Card is still in process?

thanks!

Hi JackinSack,

If you leave Canada after landing, you need to get a PR Visit kind of a thing from your nearest embassy. Your copy of COPR will be enough for this. You dont need to fill any other forms.

Hi Finpro,

Thansk for your response.   Do you happen to know the name of the form we need to fill out and submit at the Canadian Embassy?  Will they give us the returning authorizarion docs on the same day?

thanks again

Hi Jack,

unfortunately i am unable to find the document name. Following is the quote from CIC website:

"Permanent residents seeking to return to Canada who are without a permanent resident card may contact the nearest Canadian visa office to obtain a limited use travel document to re-enter Canada at a cost of $50 for each one."

You can read it in more detail at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pr-card/index.html

Hope this helps.

It is call a "travel document for PR abroad" see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/travel.html  for the instructions and application forms.

Hi PMM,

thanks for your reply and welcome back.

in reading the Travel Document application, it says that a "minimum of 730 days in Canada" is required to meet residency requirements.  Do we qualify to use this application since we plan to leave canada about a week or two after we land?

Thanks again

Yes, as it is for PRs who have not lost their residency and have not received their PR cards.  If you supply an address in Canada when you land, you PR card will be mailed in 30 days and your friends can then forward it by courier (safer) to you overseas and then you don't require the travel visa.
