Hi there,

I was asking CIC today about the allowed stay for super visa holder. As we know, the supervisa is UP to 2 years.
Knowing that and the fact that the insurance requirements are for 1 year, I asked them how do the POE decide what is the allowed stay? Is the recommandation to allow 2 years?
They weren't able to say. They kept saying that the supervisa is for UP to 2 years and the POE decides for how long. No written recommandation exists!

Did anybody landed with a supervisa already? What happened at the POE?

Any immigration layer/paralegal to answer this?

Thanks.

it's 2 years... it's clear on CIC website FAQ page
This is the only key difference between this visa and the regular TRV

The key difference is that the Super Visa will have status periods for each entry that last up to two years...

Not exactly 2 years, is it?

the CIC plays with words or what ??

validity up to 10 years ...
Then Stay up to 2 years !!

Maybe if the passport expires in less than 2 years, then you will be granted a stay adequate to your passport expiration date !

If the passport expires, the VO would not have granted a visa more than the passport's validity at all.

I would think that the IO at POE will decide the duration based on medical conditions/insurance. Like CIC asks for an insurance for at least one year and up. But the insurance companies are selling their products for only a year. As a result, the IO may grant only 1 year stay (or 2 years MAX).

Getting back to the original question by ottawat,

I've found this on Page:30 of 'What Happens Next' section in the TRV Application Guide (IMM 5256) that

              Parents & Grandparents Super Visa:
The stamp placed in your passport by a Canadian official may be valid up to two (2) years unless otherwise
              amended by an officer.

So, it's most likely that parents will be allowed to stay for 2 years.
