Laid off - Claiming EI
«

Hi SeniorMembers,
I got laid off on aug6th and I have applied for EI online. I am planning to search for a job for about 2months as my WP is still valid till Apr-2010, I am planning to go back to india, if I don't find anything within 2months, would there be any problem if I plan to go back and claim the EI for 2months? How would I inform to stop the payments before I leave canada?
Thanks

You must call Service Canada when you leave Canada. When you claim EI you should be able and willing to work (hence it is important to let them know when you leave Canada). I am assuming that you have an open work permit.
