Charlie, when you were going through your process, what was the Kingston office processing time during those times and what was the CIC-M?

CPC-M was 28-30 days (we waited 81 days) and KG was at 17 months (we waited 11 months, from receipt to issuing of visa).

LOL, they are definitely hubby's children, so I had to adopt them.  It was a huge adjustment, I didn't just dislike dogs, they terrified me.  I was bitten quite badly as a child and never had much to do with them afterwards.  Coming here though I knew I had to adapt to them.  Hubby bought me the terrier because he figured I might warm to a smaller dog faster than the Great Dane.  Her size is very intimidating, and she is very possessive of him.  To prepare them for my arrival, he put his jacket on me, so they caught his scent overlaying mine, and he held my hand the first time I touched her.  I know all of their commands now, plus I have gotten them accustomed to a couple of my own, so that they understand that I am also to be obeyed (I point to the house to send them indoors, and they know when I open the door latch they are to come to me to go in/out, depending on what is happening).

Great Dane's are massive dogs so I can understand the reservations. Hey mention to your hubby that you'd like to catch an episode of the dog whisperer....He is amazing!! I totally picked up his principles for just every day life not concerning dogs. You'll really enjoy it. BTW - female dogs are very protective of their male owners. I had that experience when my ex many years ago brought his dog over (which I was very reluctant to let in my house). We left the dog to go shopping only to come back and find my $200 new pair of CK shoes were chewed to just the bare bones Cry
She was so jealous of our relationship.

Hey famjam! hope everyones day is going great today....im not so good myself, but trying to keep up. This wait is getting excruciatingly painful for me. When i was preparing my app i was so confident in it, but now as the weeks go by im becoming less and less confident, and becoming more doubtful than ever....wondering if i provided enough supporting documents...and whether or not im going to be approved as sponsor...this whole waiting game is just not for me, and as the days are getting closer and closer to me hearing something back from CIC, it just feels like the pressure is on, I hate being kept in suspense, and that is what's killing me right now...just coming to my family for some encouragement...we all need some encouragement at times...and today is def one of those days that I need to hear some good words.

I was like this too! Every day that went by made me a little more stressed. But guess what? It's soon done! You will cry the day they send you an email and even more for the approval. I made myself sick with worry those days. It's really hard to deal with but you are strong and you have friends to talk to.. Wait... You have family u can talk too (us). So keep on tugging along... Think of it as one day closer! One less day! And you will be surprised how far u make it!

Charlie are you serious? How come at the CIC website it says to add the first (sponsor approval) to the second (PR approval) which would give the total average of the 16 months??? Have you ever downloaded their operating manual? It's full of good information. It's a must read for all those who want to know how they rate, determine, decide. Also, their objective is to complete 80% of aps within 8 months from what I recall.....NOT! lol

Where can I download the manual?

Hello Mrs. Clarke - you are a Clarke right? Well we have something in common. Smiley  Do you recall writing a school exam and then went back to review your answers especially the ones you weren't 100% about and then changed it because another answer "sounded" better? Well do you recall getting back the exam only to find out that the answers you changed went from RIGHT to WRONG? Hoping you're following me here....when you sent off your application, you felt confident, felt happy, felt secure; why else would you have risked even sending it in if you weren't? The reason doubt creeps into our minds is because we start comparing our situation to others and of course "time" has a way of making us "wonder" "kept in the dark" so the only thing to combat the suspense and the wondering is to really hone on all the positives in your life right now. Each of us women in this forum understand what you're going through and it's natural but one of the things I've put at the top of my list while hubby and I are apart is to really work on "me" whether it's to hang out with friends, workout, read, go for walks, talk to you girls, work on my future plans, I work on "me" because I  know it will benefit "us". My husband always says when you focus on something, whether it's a desire for good or bad, it somehow finds it's way to becoming a reality. I believe in that too.

Stay focused, be confident and remain strong - save the crying for when he lands Shocked)

I started reading this and I got to a part that says sponsoring spouses, adopted children etc or of higher priority and they try to have these finished within a 6 month period unless there is some complications.. They weren't talking about kingston hey.. Lol  if that's the case we shouldn't be waiting so long

.5.6. Processing priorities
Applications for permanent residence from spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners and dependent children have the highest priority, along with children to be adopted. Other members of the family class follow. These are operational, not regulatory priorities. The Department aims to process 80% of sponsorship and permanent residence applications submitted on behalf of the high-priority group of spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners and dependent children within six months.

I believe based on what it explains it that each application is put into a category of routine and non routine.  Read up on that section. Charlie perhaps has a better way of translating it into laymen terms for all of us. Words can be interpreted in so many different ways but when lawyers are the ones drafting up those documents, it's even worse!!

Happy Wednesday everyone,

So i read the manuals (confusing mostly). What I was trying to find was how the process from cic then from the vo. It is 2 separate processes correct? It seems if I am reading correctly, that they check sponsorship requirements again in stage 2. Then all other stuff like medicals, police records, for fraud etc.

Also does Kingston have their own manuals because Kingston doesn't really abide by the time limits etc stated or the way they handle in terms of updating, AORs etc.

CharlieD maybe you can explain better...

I feel my case is str8 forward sponsoring spouse, we have child together (already Canadian) I have a previous child (already Canadian) no marriages before, no criminal record, great health, only travelled for school (previous address).. So I'm basically sponsoring just hubby right?

I should fall in normal applications although I realize that I may be a normal application, but still have to wait until Kingston decides to open it which could be now or next year.

Also do you think they have a processing time limit meaning, how much time they can put into finding out necessary info or processing applications...

Good morning!

Blondie, yes, you have it correctly.  The two steps are separate, and yes KG will evaluate the sponsor again.  The reason for this is that a sponsor must remain eligible to sponsor for the entire time it takes for a decision to be made on the application, which is essentially when the applicant lands and is granted permanent resident status.

That is why sponsors who are PRs must continue resident in Canada until their spouses land, and that is why citizen/PR spouses who are sponsoring cannot access welfare, declare bankruptcy and so on during the processing time.  All these matters of eligibility will again be assessed and if the sponsor is not eligible when the applicant is to receive their visa, even if they were found eligible initially at CPC-M, the applicant will be refused a visa.

As a side note and for example purposes: when I was landing, the immigration officer that processed me said the week before he had to turn someone back because their spouse had begun accessing welfare after his visa was issued but before he landed.  So nothing is final until the applicant actually shows up in Canada and has their visa in hand to be examined at the border.

KG will not have a separate manual, but what they will have are local procedures specific to dealing with Jamaicans.  Remember that although the operational procedures are the same across the board, how the officers will be able to access the information they need and how quickly they get it will be impacted by local situations.  As we all know, Jamaica is the land of "soon come".

There is not a time limit, per se.  They have processing standards and guidelines, that is why the manual says they aim to deal with spouses and dependents within 6 months, I think.  However, officers will get to a point in dealing with an application whereby they cannot satisfy themselves that the person is admissible to Canada, which is really the entire point of processing an application.  At this point, in dealing with family class, they will request an interview.  If the interview fails to reconcile their concerns, then they refuse the application.
