LOL ya, I am scared to drive in Jamaica because my mind has not yet grasped the driving on the other side of the road thing...so even when I'm crossing the street..I get thrown off when I see cars coming in the "wrong direction" lol ....ya forget that idea...too nervous to drive. My husband doesn't drive..i would like to visit runaway bay or mobay but the taxi fare is kind of steep still. Can you take a bus to those resort areas from like Spanish town??? My husband doesn't travel much lol

Take coaster bus, but I dont think taxi fare steep compared to other methods...but there is a bus from town that goes right into mobay..or charter a taxi, if yu can find someone to do it for less than 8000.00, anything more than that they robbing u lol

LOL, OK that I can definitely answer for you.
Yes, you can take the bus to Ocho Rios from Spanish Town. Do, for the love of God, make sure you take a bus! They have some taxis that go on the route, but them man drive like they are mad. Most of them manage to reach safe, but you will surely lose a few years off your life being so scared the entire trip! Better still, come into Kingston, go downtown to the rural bus park near the Darling Street police station, they have coasters there instead of the little mini-buses, going to Ocho Rios. When you get to Ocho Rios, you take a bus from there (same park) to Runaway Bay. Get a bus to Brownstown, they usually say via St. Ann's Bay/Salem/Runaway Bay.
Or, if you want to travel in style and comfort to Ocho Rios, book with Knutsford Express. Their rates are a bit more expensive but you have a guaranteed departure time and they stop at the Ocho Rios Jerk Centre, which is a short walk from the bus park where you get the bus to Brownstown.

The Brownstown buses have to pass through Salem/Runaway Bay area, if she decides on Runaway Bay, I recommend the bus. It's more expensive to take a taxi to St. Ann's Bay and then another one to Runaway Bay from there.

This is what I'm saying...last time I was in Jamaica tried to charter a taxi to Montego Bay they wanted to charge me $16,000!!!!! I really needed the ride ended up talking him down to 10 or was it 12 but I knew it was way over priced but had no other option--Charlie, am I right to say this was overpriced???

LOL, oh yes I know the feeling of driving with taxi drivers and praying fervently lol. This sounds good...but what are coasters? :s I think I may get mixed up...I think knutsford express sounds nice...but you say I would still have to take another bus from ocho to runaway bay??? And thanks @ rickybigz for the info---how you do?

Good morning! It's Friday, well not quite but for some of us it's our "Friday", including KG! So that means we are looking for big things from you today, KG! NNNNEEEXXXTTT!!! R2C, I think you are dropping off today, make sure you arrive early for that lineup! They start admitting at 1:30, but try to get there by 1:00 at the latest. LHNB, a coaster is a larger bus, long and tall. As opposed to the smaller "mini-buses". They can be somewhat more comfortable to ride in, more headroom for one thing. Legroom, well, it wouldn't be Jamaica if they didn't try to cram as many people in there as they could. Not every coaster driver doing long distance drives try to cram 5 in a row, but some of them do! A bus driver did that to us one time going to Westmoreland, and I was so p***ed! Yes, no matter what you take, either from Spanish Town or Kingston, you will have to take a second vehicle to Runaway Bay, there is nothing that goes straight on to Runaway Bay from those places. As for the taxi charter rates, sadly, that $10/12,000 was probably the correct rate (yes, $16,000 would have been over-rated). I once tried to get a taxi to get me to Montego Bay when I missed a flight in Kingston. The driver told me his company rate was $17,500! I almost had heart failure. I ended up paying him $2,000 to get me back from KIN to New Kingston, and waited 4 hours for the next departure from Knutsford Express. Charter rates are madness, but the driver was explaining to me you are paying for both the distance (one rate), the driver's time (another rate) and the fuel costs (third rate). And you know what gas costs are like! Well, I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend! I am off to West' to see my family. It will be one of my last trips home before my travel date, so I am looking forward to some serious QT with my Mom, the beach and some friends!
