Just got a full-time job - need help and tips

Hi everyone,

I am new at this site. I am confused and lost in the beginning process of CEC. I hope I can get as much help as possible because I really want to get PR.

I got my PGWP in September 2010
My PGWP will expire in September 2013
I just got a full-time job under 2172 (Skill Level A) and will be starting in February 2012
Given that all goes well in my job for 12 months (Until February 2013), I can apply for CEC

Questions:
1) The Processing Times in the CIC website says is 15 months. What happens when my PGWP expires during my application? Implied status? How long can I hold implied status?
2) When should I start applying for CEC? Before or after my 1 year experience?
3) What is LMO basically about and when should I get my employer apply for that?
4) When should I send my medical assessment?
5) Do I need letter of reference for my two part-time jobs (Skill level C that do not count for CEC) after my graduation?
6) Any other helpful tips that will prevent me for doing everything last minute and making my head burst?

1. Yes, the official processing time is 15 months, but lately majority of applicants get their PPR way earlier than that deadline. If  your PGWP expires, you have to renew it to keep your status in Canada active.

A temporary resident must apply to extend their period of authorized stay before it ends. If they
have done so, their period of authorized stay as a temporary resident is extended by law until a
decision is made [R183(5)]. Such a person is considered to have implied status as a temporary
resident during that period.
If a temporary resident applies for renewal of their work or study permit and their permit expires
before a decision is made, R186(u) and R189 (the right to continue working or studying under the
same conditions pending a determination of their application for renewal) apply only as long as
the person remains in Canada.
A temporary resident with implied status who has left Canada may:
• be allowed to re-enter Canada as a temporary resident, pending a decision on the renewal of
their application to study or work in Canada, provided they are TRV exempt as per R190 or on
a multiple-entry visa. They may not resume work or study in Canada until their application for
renewal has been granted. For those not able to resume work, they must satisfy the BSO that
they have sufficient means of support. (Note that this applies to foreign nationals who are
TRV exempt as per R190(3)(f) and to those on multiple-entry visas.)
• be allowed to apply for a new work or study permit at the port of entry provided they have a
right to do so under the Regulations.

2. Let's say you start your NOC 2172 job Feb.1st 2012  Feb.1st 2013 will be the first day you gain 1 year working experience. And the job has to be at least 37.5 hours per week.

3. LMO is Labour Market Opinion. It is the document Canadian employer need to apply if they want to hire foreign workers. They have to post the job on public market for three months and without any Canadian or PR applying or quailed for this job, then they can apply for LMO. Below are two link regarding LMO. It is the forms your employer need to fill out not you.

You should notify your employer to apply three or four months before your current work permit expires.

4. You can send it when they require you, that happens normally three months after you hand in your application.

5. Some people will say yes. But according to my experience, I also worked for NOC C or D level jobs before I started work NOC B, I didn't include any NOC C or D job reference letter just NOC B.

6. So far, you have got nothing else to do. Just prepare for IELTS test and work hard and keep healthy wait till Feb 1st 2013.

You should consider PNP. As you are PGWP you do not need an LMO and usually 6 months after employment or just after your probation you can apply for PNP.

Once approved you can extend your TWP and apply for PR without LMO's.

Thank you so much. Seems that I am being recommended to apply for Provincial nominee program instead of the Canadian experience class. is one better than the other?

And another question. under the PNP it says that I must "Meet the prevailing wage in Ontario for that occupation or entry level wage in Ontario for
International Student". My job offer is an entry level since I have little experience. Does my job has to be at least the minimum or should it be the average? Because my salary will fall between the low and average.

Database analyst in Toronto:
Low: $16.00 /hr
Average: $28.87/hr
High: $39.96/hr

I'm concerned about this because I read in other forums that people get their applications rejected because their wage was too low. What are your views?
