Dear All,

I am applicant fm 2004 batch and had my medical expired on 16-Jan-2010.

Today I received letter from CIC Islamabad, in which they have asked to provide (a) Updated IMM0008 and Schedule I form and (b) Updated Police Certificates within 30 days. They have not asked for photocopies of passports OR photographs. I need guidance whether I should be sending them photographs as I doubt they can issue re-medical documents without fresh photographs. Can someone who got re-medical, guide me on this please?

Dear forum members
I have filled a survey on the CIC website.

In your opinion, is there a need to make changes to the Federal Skilled Worker program's selection system?

Yes there should be changes

Canada is the most popular immigration destination among the world. In order to ensure the absorption of immigrants in the Canadian Society certain changes have to be made to FSW program. These changes should include the following
1-There should be minimum language ability points requirement.
2- Age point system should be re-defined in order to welcome younger migrants.
3- Strict laws should be enforced to counter the fraud employment offers.
4- There should be additional points for the FSW Spouses working in high demand occupations.
5- Additional points for spouse language abilities.
6- There should be a cap on applicants applying through AEOs to reduce the backlog.

In your opinion, what are the strengths of the selection system?

FSW selection system has following main strengths.
1- It is in accordance with HSRDC recommendations.
2- Assessment of applicant's financial status to settle in Canada.
3- Criminal record verification of all the applicants for the safety of the Canadians.
4- Medical examinations.

EXPLANATION
FSW selection system is in accordance with HSRDC recommendations and it is better for both Canadians and migrants. It is permeable for high demand occupations only. When the migrants reach their destination they can easily find a job in their own occupation and don't have start all over again. Also if the migrant have the minimum amount of funds as per CIC law then they can stay in Canada without job for 10 months.

In your opinion, what are the weaknesses of the selection system?
1- Possibility of fraud in the Arranged Employment offers.
2- There is no requirement for minimum language abilities.
3- Increase in processing times due to backlog of applicants.
 
EXPLANATION
There is no possible method to ensure that an applicant with arranged employment offer in Canada is a genuine case. AEO applicants should be given a 6 month work permits to come to Canada and start their job with their employer. After that they should be given proper immigration if they continue with their employer.
There is minimum requirement of 67 points but there is no minimum requirement of language points.  This allows some applicants with lower language abilities to pass through.
There are caps in place on 29 occupations but no cap on applicants with AEOs which might again increase backlog of cases and processing times.







The Federal Skilled Worker Program uses the following six factors as evaluation criteria. Please rank the factors below in order of importance, one being the most important, two is next most important etc., when considering what is most important for an immigrant to succeed in Canada's labour market.


•   Whether applicants have arranged employment in Canada before arriving       == 4
•   Abilities in English and/or French, Canada's two official languages == 1
•   Age  == 2
•   Education  == 3
•   Adaptability  == 5
•   Work experience == 6

To what extent do you agree or disagree with making changes to the language selection factor?

Strongly agree
There should be a barrier in place for the applicant's with lower language abilities. It is better for applicants as their immigration ambitions will not end up in despair after arriving in Canada and being jobless.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to increase the weight of the first official language proficiency from 16 to 20 points?

Strongly agree
EXPLANATION
Canada's second official language (French) is mainly spoken in Quebec. FSW immigrants settle mainly in English speaking provinces where there is no need for second official language. I think this barrier should be removed.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to establish minimum language requirements depending on occupation?

This condition can be imposed but I think that language tools is necessary everywhere for all the occupations.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with making changes to the age selection factor?

Disagree
There is no problem with the current CIC policy for age selection factors.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to award maximum points until age 35, with diminished points awarded until age 49?

Neither agree nor disagree
The age of the applicants is an important factor in determining their capabilities in certain occupations but a general rule that younger applicants will perform better is not true.


To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to increase the weight of age from 10 to 12 points?
Somewhat disagree
This will not cause a huge impact on number of younger applicants getting visas.


To what extent do you agree or disagree with making changes to the work experience selection factor?
 Somewhat agreed
The current law in place is appropriate but the logic given to distribute selection points to other important selection factors is appropriate.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to reduce the total number of points that could be awarded for foreign work experience from 21 to 15?

Somewhat agree
Canada should also improve their foreign credential accreditation to give more chance to foreign qualified professionals to take part in Economic development.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the proposal to establish clearer criteria for assessing the genuineness of a job offer?
 
 Somewhat agree
An applicant with the arranged employment offer should be given a 6 month work permit instead of immigration at the early stage.
