Hello everyone,

Is SIN number required to apply for a job or PR card?

Can a landing document be also used to apply for job?

You need a SIN number. Go to your local Service Canada office to get it. It doesn't take long to get. You won't get the actual card that day but you get the number which is all you need.

Actually you don't need it but many people think otherwise. This is because they have been telling young Canadians
in high school that it would be a very good idea to do this for the last oh, 35 years. We are not legally bound or obliged
in any way to do this. A company can not legally refuse to hire you on these grounds.

You don't need to provide a SIN number to "Apply" for a job... but you do need it to be employed once offered the job...

You should get a SIN before taking a job.
Take your passport and COPR to a service canada and they will give you the number immediately.

I went to service canada. In my passport there is given name but no SURNAME/LAST NAME thus when i got my visa my given name was put as last name and first name as blank.
service canada was unable to process the SIN number without first name thus they have manually filed application and they will send me SIN number within a month Smiley
i dont know how can they leave my last name as blank

Hubs had issues with mismatched information...not sure what it was, but originally they told us a week for the manually filed application, so he went back to follow up a week later and they had LOST his paperwork....the following week we got his SIN.  He has found that when he explained to a couple of employers that he had been in contact with before he landed, that they won't even consider starting the interview process without his SIN....but now its in.....

Happy Job hunting!!!
