Hello,
It is both over here. There are 12 hour shift (7am to 7pm and vice versa) and there are 8 hour shift (7am - 3pm - 11pm). It really depends on the hospital.
Hope this helps. Bukola Salami

No news yet on the interview I went to last week, I have a feeling I was not chosen because during the conversation with the owner, being overqualified was mentioned again. I did try to assure them that being overqualified is not an issue for me and should not be thought of as a negative, it will just make me better at doing the job. Don't know if I convinced them... Oh well, I'm back to sending out my resume... I will just keep trying 'til I get a job, it's good that we can still live on my husband's salary I don't have to look for survival jobs just yet.

Hello guys
great information and thanks for sharing. I have a few questions as well. Does online courses really help show that u have obtained canadian education?the other question in my field (library) they keep on asking for ALA acreditation yet still most of the canadian universities that I applied to(with job openings) and where I did the online courses (did very well) are partners with my international University and have an active International student exchange programme. I have applied to WES to evaluate my degree when I get the evaluation do I write it in the cover letter or wait until I am called (if that call ever comes) in the interview. opinions would be greatly welcomed.

Hello everyone, how's the job hunt? Been busy with everyday life and looking for jobs... Good news is I found a day care for my daughter which gave me the freedom to apply for jobs that I otherwise might not have applied for because of the work schedule and no one will take care of her. I got a job at Staples Call Center, Customer Service Rep... It's not a high paying job but I think it is good enough for my first job here in Canada. I will gain the much needed Canadian job experience and at the same time I'll earn money to update my skills/knowledge. I don't know if I will still go for having my foreign degree recognized, the process is too demanding for me right now in terms of time and money. I would rather start fresh by enrolling in a certificate or diploma course here in SK. Thanks for all your advice here and encouraging words.

Depends on your location, I'm in Saskatchewan so I often look at saskjobs.ca but you can submit your resume to recruitment firms like Adecco or Manpower or Kelly Services. You can also look at career websites of companies like what I did with Staples. Hi Rubyalabar
Can you please provide me a little guidance as to how did u get the job? where did u apply for it?
I am also looking for jobs but no luck yet..... any help will be much appreciated
Thanks

Well newtone, it's subjective... What I consider a high paying job may not be one to you. For instance my husband is at 23.50 per hour working as a Maintenance Planner, I consider that fairly high for someone whose certification as an Electrical Engineer/Technologist has not even begun yet. Anyway, I was offered 10.75 per hour so anything above that I consider to be high What would be considered as a high paying job?

Hello,
Yes, the definition of high paying job really depend
For example, if you have high school education or working in a field that requires only high school, then something more than 18 per hour may be high paying job. If you have a degree and work in healthcare job that requires a degree, 18 will be considered low paying job, and high paying may be 40-50 per hour. While I know some people who will see 40 per hour as too low for them (for example, an experienced (North America experience) intensive care nurse working for an employment agency may see $45 per hour as LOW paying). There are also other factors that affect it but very important is the level of education needed to do the job.
I think on average, for most new immigrants something in the 20's will be considered a really good pay.

Guess most qualified immigrants faced the same dilemma. I came qualified in my field, went back to University here, 4 yrs got re qualified, had some experience in my area at the university I attended. I have sent dozens of resumes and no interviews, even to do a job that requires a grade 12 education. Why go back to university here if when you graduate there would be no jobs. Oh what makes you question the system is that there are vacancies that are advertised, you have all the criteria, you apply and they don't even respond. Who are filling these vacancies.

Its really all over the place. Depends on the hospital. If it is 8 hour shift, then it is 7-3, 3-11, 11-7. If it is 12 hour, it is 7am- 7pm and 7pm to 7am
