Good for you that you kept an open mind to move and find a job elsewhere when it didn't work in BC.  Alberta is colder in the winter but take it day by day, it is not so bad.

Did you manage to get health coverage right away as an international move or do they make you wait for 3 months because you were in BC first?

Yes. We immediately got our Alberta Health card since we did not receive any from B.C. That is another thing that I liked with Alberta. No grace period for health insurance and at the same time no monthly premium. In B.C., I believe we had to pay for about $150 per month.

First off congrats to you!  I too am a LPN from the US.  Are you working at AHS?  For those that are wondering a couple of weeks ago I attended the new employee orientation with AHS (Alberta Health Services).  It is true about BC right now.  There was at least 4 or 5 LPN/RN in the orientation from BC along with alot of new grads.  Glad that you are settled but sorry that you wound up having to move.  I did alot of research before we came to Canada and so far I am very happy that I chose Alberta versus Manitoba.  I was found eligible for Manitoba registration but decided against it since I was already registered in Alberta.  I am finding that at least at the facility I am working at that it is a more organized system then in the US.  A few differences but for the most part it is about the same.
