Hi Qorax and other senior members,

if you had the us license for more than 2 years, you can simply exchange your license for a full G license. You will only have to do an eye test at service ontario office. If you are just vistiting canada then yes the us license is valid. I exchanged my us license for a full g license here in ontario.. i only did the eye exam...

Can you please share if you get your US car to Canada, and if yes,
how tough was this transition in context of registration/inspection/paper-work?

The actual process is province dependant.

Importing car is pretty simple if you follow all the steps. The whole deal can be completed in less than a week.

 - make sure with RIV that your vehicle is admissible here(http://www.riv.ca/VehicleAdmissibility.aspx) or call 1-888-848-8240

 - Get a recall clearance letter from your vehicle manufacturer

 - Fax your Title to the US Customs & border  3 days prior to crossing

 - Cross with your car, pay tax, and RIV fee - you'll get what is known as form 1 (this acts as your temporary tag in Canada)

 - RIV will email you what is known as form 2 within 24 hours (This will enable you to go do the inspection )

 - After the inspection go to Service Canada to register and get licence tag

 - ALL DONE
