Both my husband and I got a letter today from Immigration.  I'm the applicant and my husband is the sponsor.  My letter reads in part, as follows.

This letter refers to your application for Permanent Residence under the Spouse or common law partner in Canada class.

It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence status as a member of the spouse or common law partner in Canada class.  However, a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met.  These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you, and if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad.

Is this actually 1st stage approval?  I daren't get my hopes up, yet I SO want to!!

Yes it is congratulations.
Can you answer the following?

When was your app received, started processing, and what date on the letter did they put on your AIP approval letter?
If you don't mind, I will put your date on the Inland 2010 chart because this could really help those that applied around the same time as you to have hope.

Also, 9 months is only an estimated average as to how long it takes. My second stage took only two days after giving me first stage approval.

Hi Young_love.

My app was received on the 26th of October 2010 and they started processing it in December ... the 8th I think.  The date on the letter is the 31st of August.

In terms of 9 months being an estimated time, I understand that ... and I'm fully expecting it to take at least another 4 months, because I have Children that aren't accompanying me, nor will the ex allow them to take a medical, so I'm certain I will have to attend an interview, if only to sign the waiver banning me from sponsoring them in the future.
