Rightly said.....Not necessarily one need to have MRP....for landing...

It is not necessary. On PPR, they demand certain informations must be appearing on Passport. If the manual passport fullfills those requirements, machine readable is not required.

But it is advised to go for the machine readable pp once you get an opportunity for it as few many countries accept only this type.
