My family and I live very close to the border with USA, our Temporary Resident Visa's are expired but I don't want to renew them right now because, if we are lucky, our permanent residency application will be completed in the next few months.

CIC website states the if you go outside Canada but remain with in the USA you don't need a TRV to come back to Canada, Does anybody know for sure if we can come back with out a problem???

Thanks for your Help!!!

I think this rule only applies if you hold TRVs that are still valid.

Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Only if you were admitted to Canada, and then went to the US (only) and returning to Canada within the time that you were given on your most recent admission.

This applies if you have Study or Work Permit and you cross the river to visit US. Having a valid permit will allow you to re-enter Canada ... without TRV.

I did it many times by car and by bus and once by plane. However, you need a valid status in Canada prior and you have to be residing here too. Otherwise if you come from US and reside there you must get visa. You need to either wait for RP to be finalized or go to the nearest Canadian Consulate to apply for TRV. Also, i think some VO accept mailing applications so check it out on their website dude.

That is exactly our situation, my kids's, my wife's and my permit all of them are valid till May 2012 but not the our entry visas in our passports; we have been living in Canada since 2008 and I can easily prove that.

Thanks for the information; I just don't want to ruin what we have been waiting for all this time.

Kind Regards
