Is military a must?

Here in Israel military is a must, and it takes 3 years to complete (age 18 - 21).
Thats a pretty long time for me to spend because i don't want to live here anyways.
So do i have to do the military? and if i have to and i don't do it, would it affect me in Canada as a student?
