Buddy, it's not earth quick... It's Earthquake. Tongue

They can come anywhere, however Japan is more prone to them than other geographical areas of the Earth.

The earhtquake is so quick that we ought name it EARTHQUICK. Our hearts and toughts are with the people of Japan. I have experienced two but nothing compared to this catastrophy...

My perception is that Canada is safer but who knows where and who is safer in this planet...

You can get earthquakes literally anywhere. A couple of years back we had one in the UK - our house shook a little bit for a few seconds.

But on the edges of the continental plates under the ocean is where they are most liable to happen. California apparently have been overdue a overdue a very big earthquake for a number of years now.

Due to the situation going on, everyday I watch programs that are explaining places overdue. The Caribbean, California, China, Italy, Chile and so on...
May the Lord have mercy on us... I was 5 years old when experimented one... Not a good experience buddies..

Plates underneath us keeps on moving, so theres no place without one. I think the better question is will the buildings and houses in canada be able to withstand the same kind of magnitude?

Well said SFD.... Yes the natural calamity is always unpredictable and can happen anywhere.... I am just particularly concerned about this year 2011..... Started with Queensland, Australia....Land Tsunami/ unprecedented flood in January....followed by massive earthquake in NZ... then China, which rolled on to the very recent devastation in Japan.... its not been following any rule of neighborhood.....So whose gonna next? What more left for us to watch the power of wild nature for the rest of the year..... May GOD save us all

I read at Yahoo website this morning that there was an earthquake in Quebec last night... Not strong though... So yes, earthquakes can happen in Canada.

No place on earth is safe. Natural calamities can happen anywhere. But definitely North America is not as prone to severe earthquakes as some other regions like Japan.
