Hi All,
Is a Moroccan (Arabic) Marriage Certificate recognized in Canada?
I recently got married and got all the stamps and seals I needed from the Moroccan Foreign Embassy in Rabat and brought the marriage certificate back with me to Canada. In order to process my wifes sponsorship, do i need to get this document translated and if so, where can I get this reliably done that would be recognized by the Federal Government?
Thank You

Look in the yellow pages or Canada 411 for translation services. If it was legal in Morroco, it will accepted in Canada. PMM

Don't know where you are but Mosaic in BC is good too. Or the yellow pages like PMM suggested. Welcome to the slow moving Rabat train!

I disagree with PMM, it might not be recognized as legal in Canada. The marriage has to follow Canadian marriage laws, in Islam (if it was a muslim wedding). I know that they are allowed 4 wives, and if she is not the first wife, then it is not acceptable in Canada.

LOL! You are right about that Algerina but I think we were all assuming that the marriage itself complied with Canadian law. If it does, then Canada will recognize the marriage certificate. I know because I'm married to a Moroccan and they recognize ours. But yes, I am his ONLY wife. LOL

They ARE stamp crazy there! The marriage certificate must have the stamp from the court. However, if you get it translated in Canada, it doesn't need a stamp from a translator in Morocco. It just needs to be done by a certified translator here and they have their own stamps to show that. The translator here will even translate the stamp/seal from the court.

The translator made all kinds of spelling mistakes on mine I think because Arabic is a phonetic alphabet. But it was accepted.

ahhh when i read an English translation from Arabic, the English phrases don't make sense to me...also, the names r in general wrong, in one the name is with "a", in other with "e", and other with "i" and in other with no vowel at all ...they know how Arabic language is so i think they will accept the translation
