I'm preparing to file a Family Class PR petition for me to join my wife in Canada, who lives in Toronto.  I have filed for the FBI background check, but I know it could take months to come back.  Can I just list my registered mail receipts showing I asked the FBI for it and say that I will be sending it along when it arrives?  Will they ask me for it or just reject the whole application as incomplete?

You need to send it in with the app, or they may send it back as incomplete.

If you do a search on FBI requests, I think you will find that several people have sent the applications in without the certificate, highlighting the proof that they have applied, without their application being returned.

I would wait. It doesn't take nearly as long as they say it does to get your FBI check back. Ours only took 6.5 weeks.

Thanks for the responses on both sides!  I will have to give this some thought.

One question... for those that filed and sent the FBI stuff later, how did you send it?  Just registered mail to the processing center, with your case # on it?

Hi
My FBI letter took 2 months. In the instructions on how to complete the main application, it did state clearly to send no police certificates yet, that they would ask for them later. So I sent none out of the 3 I needed. Later the embassy did ask for them, so they'll get have them soon.

At least as far a the processing center in Canada goes, it seems to be no problem to send no police letters with initial application.

The reason most of yours took only a few weeks is because you are inside the US for those outside it could take 1-3 months.
I sent the application without my FBI clearance and it was not an issue. I just included proof that I had mailed my FBI request off and wrote a letter explaining why it wasn't included, when I should be expecting it, and that I would send it to them ASAP.

Mine was received by the FBI on 8 Feb and I am still waiting. I called to check up and they said they can not give any answers over the phone unless 10 weeks have passed. Everything in my application packet is all ready to go - can anyone who sent theirs without the FBI clearance recently confirm how they did it and just ensure me that it is ok? I am so utterly paranoid that I am going to do everything wrong and my application will be sent back or take forever!

Thanks!

Just got my FBI background check back this afternoon!  It was recieved 3/1/11 and returned 3/15/11, and of course got to me in the mail today. Cheesy

I hope to have everything packed and shipped off in a week or so.  I will probably have to post another thread with all my last minute questions... sorry guys!
