Hi all,

I'm an international student from the caribbean studying in the USA (undergrad,2yrs done) and I'm considering working (and eventually living) in Canada.
I know I need at least 1yr work experience to apply for PR as skilled worker, but I was wondering if it's possible to work in Canada after graduation instead of returning to my home country to work and then apply for PR.

So my question is: as I would have no work experience after graduation, is it possible to work in Canada (assuming  i had a job offer) by applying for a temporary work permit? (and then later applying for PR)

so far i can either:
1. return home, work for a while, then apply for PR as a skilled worker
2. or work in the USA for a yr (under Optional Practical Training) and then apply for PR in canada.

thanks

If you can obtain a temporary work permit through a Canadian employer, it would be best. You can live there for a while
under this visa and obtain the required years of work experience to maximize your points. Unless you get a Canadian job
offer before you even start your US Optional Practical Training (OPT), I would suggest working in the US on OPT till you get a job
offer in Canada. You can always interrupt the OPT job and go to Canada in the latter case. Of course, you can always return home and find work and then apply if everything else fails.
