Hello,

I know that the government now provides internship for Canadian P.R's owing to the importance of 'Canadian experience'.

For the rest of us non P.R though, I even feel hesitant to walk into an insitution (e.g. bank) and ask 'can you provide me internship here'. I don't even think it's easy to find internship or voluntary work. I can be wrong, that's why I want to know other ppl's opinion. Does anyone have any cases/stories or strong arguments?

If you're interested in obtaining an internship with one of the big banks, walking into a branch probably won't get you anywhere.

In these organizations internships are typically managed centrally. If you haven't done so already, the first thing you should do is visit the web sites of these organizations and look at their career site. Specifically, check out their programs for new immigrants and/or programs for new graduates.

Hope this helps.
