Sent application in on 23rd September......has heard nothing to date.....my work visa expires November 19th 2009....and i am waiting for a new LMO approval for another 2 year contract.....
This waiting is a killer i admit.....i think i have done something wrong on the application form.....as other people seem to have been notified a lot quicker about the sponsership part. Just hoping the LMO gets through before Nov 19th so i can remain in Canada and get my extension off and carry on with the implied intent status.
Will keep updated
Hi angelbrat, Did you send your Open Work Permit application together with your PR application? I am also under a work visa which will expire on Janury 2010. I phoned CIC and they informed me that it is OK to continue working for the same employer (no need for a new work permit or extension) while waiting for the approval as long as you've submitted your OWP application already.

Hi siuoxie ... I have an outland application in process ... it is taking awhile but... I am in Australia and my partner is in Canada ... I wish to see her but I am doubtful they will let me in with my app in process as I was asked to leave last October 2008 ... as I was an overstayer... so it looks like I am stuck waiting for a hopefully positive answer....

Hi Siouxie
Is your e-CAS status say In Process already? If it is, your medical results have already been received by CIC. See below explanations that I copied from their website:
IN-PROCESS (A decision has not been made yet)
Application Received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) We have received your application and will review it in order of receipt. We will send you an acknowledgement letter.
Documentation Verified by CIC We are reviewing your application to make sure it is complete and that no documents are missing. We will return incomplete applications for resubmission.
Medical Results Received by CIC We have received your medical results. We will contact you only if additional tests are needed.

angelbrat,
An Open Work Permit (OWP) will enable you to work anywhere you want, just like an ordinary citizen, while waiting for the final approval of your PR application. You won't be tied to just one employer. But since you didn't submit your OWP application together with your PR application, you have to wait for the first-stage approval from CIC before you can apply for an OWP (they'll send you a letter). That's like 5-6 months depending on how fast they decide. You cannot just send them the application. Also, you cannot work after your current work visa expires, unless (of course), you receive your new work permit that you recently submitted. I know it's complicated. I spent lots of time with the CIC call centre just to clarify stuff. You might wanna call them too if you want some questions answered.

The OWP application is the same as the form for Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada (IMM 1249). At the very top of the form, just tick option "C" for An initial work permit or extension of work permit. You can print this off from the website. Or if you want to be sure that you have all the right forms, call the CIC call centre and request for application kits for PR and OWP. It's your call if you want to apply inland or outland. It is faster if you apply outland though. Even CIC says so. I just didn't read enough before I decided to apply inland. I just followed what a friend of mine did (she applied inland and got her OWP in 6 months and her PR in 10 months time). I didn't know an outland application is possible. Anyhow, we're on the same way to being permanent residents! wohooo LOL Good luck

Hi Girlash, I have acknowledgement of my previous medical (2 years ago!) but not of the latest one. My last Ecas entry states "We received the requested information on October 29, 2008. Thank you for providing the information." Sigh..... Hi uncychopper , Sorry I thought you were an Inland applicant as well! Is your overstay going to affect your application? I have been out of status for 4 years but have been told I have "implied status" as my AIP was granted.

Hi everyone !
While the Inland application is "in process" do they give you online updates as to whether or not they received the medical reports or require additional information? Do they tell you where your application is being processed? We haven't heard anything back since they started processing our application, so not sure if everything is in order.
Also, we did not have the FBI check at the time of application, but do now, we sent a police record check from the only state he has lived in. Should we just mail the FBI check to CIC-V now or wait till they request it? And, We didn't send in the application for a work permit with the initial application. Can we send this in now or wait till he has his AIP.
At the time we thought that my husband couldn't apply until he was granted PR status. All the things we learned after the fact ....
Cheers!

Hello again everybody!
I am glad that this thread is alive, more and more inlanders share their posts. I want to share one idea how to kill the time while waiting for PR and work visa.
GO VOLUNTEER.
It is awesome way to meet new people, network, it looks good in your resume, you will get nice referral letters from Canadians which will help a lot looking for the real job. There are hundreds volunteer opportunities posted on Craigslist 'community' section, also there is great website : govolunteer.ca where you will find all kinds of positions starting from chef, to accountant, IT specialist, artists, nurses, etc.
I called CIC and they said it is OK, as long as your 'employer' is comfortable with you not having SIN number. 99% of the times they don't need it.

I received an e-mail from London CIC this morning requesting an updated police certificate, background info and additioanl family information form for my son - with 30 days to reply. They state that they must receive the information within 30 days in order for everything to be completed before his medical expires.
Woohoo!!!!
It looks like (providing everything goes well) that I could be landing in January and my son 4 weeks later...
Finally!!!!!
If my son lands in February it will be 5 years since the application went in....
I am bouncing off the walls this morning with happiness!
