im a little confussed  I have always read that it is better and faster to apply outland rather than inland.  My friend who currently went through the inland process said it only took her 8 months and would have been faster if she would have filled out her form correctly.  She also said that it is faster inland because now they process them by the region or province you live in.

I also looked at the processing times for inland and for hongkong vo and it seems the processing time is shorter to apply inland.  21 months including approval in principal and 20 months for inland.

also if we apply for a work permit through saskatchewan she said that we could get a work permit in 90 days

I heard somewhere that we can apply for outland application to be processed in buffalow and it would take about 4 months but im not sure about this.

any help?

If you apply inland, you won't get the work permit until you have first stage approval (11-12 months) and second stage can take another 8 months. Whoever told you you could get a work permit in 90 was mistaken.

With outland, you will only be able to work once you are landed as a permanent resident and have a SIN.

I am not sure you are eligible to apply through Buffalo.

Perhaps ask others who have been through the HK office to comment on their timelines to give you an idea of how long it will take. In reality, it can actually be much faster than the times posted on the cic website. For eg, London stated 9 months (when i was being processed) and it actually took 1.5 months. Most people are completed through london in 3-4 months max.

Not sure if you're a Hong Kong resident or from Mainland China.  I remember seeing threads about some Hong Kong residents got their PR through Hong Kong VO in about 7 months.  But others applicants from Southern Mainland China seems to take a much longer time.

Some recent application in Buffalo are talking about 5-9 months.

(Source from thread for outland Buffalo applicants:

Also, a couple of items for consideration:
1) Applying outland would allow you to appeal if your application is rejected, but you can't appeal if you apply inland.
2) How easy is it for you to attend an interview in the VO if they require one.

My wife is from mainland china so Im think it will take longer than a hongkong resident.  I think Hongkong now takes care of applicants from Hongkong taiwan and south china and beijing takes care of north china.  The person who told me about the work visa in 90 days said there is a provincial program you can apply through seperatly that takes only 90 days so im not sure about that but will have to ask her about it again.

its interesting that beijing only takes about 4 months for north china but hongkong takes 19 months.  you would think beijing would take some of the overload there are some things to mysterious for my mind to understand.

well maybe outland sounds a little better with the possibility that it could be shorter time  since the timelines are very similar.

Thank you everyone for helping to clear this up for me.

im curious what the inland thread is for?  is it for timelines or for questions?

It's for people who applied inland in 2011 to share, which includes timelines and questions.

And I think there is a thread for China applicants too, if you're interested in.

im curious what the inland thread is for?  is it for timelines or for questions?

Yes I would be interested in the china thread.   I can still make new threads for questions for Outland applicants though right?

another thing to keep in mind is that for inland if she leaves Canada for some emergency than the application is closed; so, she would be kind of stuck for maybe 18 months; for outland, it does not matter and as long as she has multiple entry visa still valid she can go come as much as she wants; but yeah some outland offices look slower than inland but there's always the hope and some members' experience that usually they finish faster than posted (now the big question is r those happy fast cases 10%, 50% or 80% of all?! that noone knows Roll Eyes ) buffalo could b a very good choice but i think it applies for people who stay in Canada with work/study visa (visas valid for at least one year) but maybe for ur case too, u need to ask around

Try to look around or search in the forum. There are a lot of information that I found very helpful.  And of course you can make new threads for questions.  Good luck!
