Guys, I need some help here. I have a few questions.

1:   A friend of mine got AIP on Friday Aug.19 and there application was received on Oct.22,2010. They are definitely working ahead of there schedule. They only got AIP because there medical expired. They did there medical in June 2010 and I guess they would not extend there medical for 2 months. That sucks. How long will it take to get 2nd stage if they need to re-do the medical?

If they have got a request for remedicals, then they must have got 3 months for the response. That means no one gonna look at their file for 3 months. Ask your friend to make sure with call center that they do have their first medicals on file because CIC lost my medicals

2:   Now for my situation, my husband did his medical Jan.22,2010 and our app was received by Vegreville on March 31,2010. 10 months of waiting takes us to Jan.31,2011. Should we re-do a medical and send it so they would not have any chance of asking for another one?

Do nopt go through medical unless they ask for it. Normally, they extends the validity of the medical by one year. They extend the validity of my medicals.

3:   We did not send an open work permit with our application. Should we do that now and maybe they will attach it to our application? Would you send one or will it be a waste of $150?

Again it depends from case to case. If you get approved for both first and second stage together then it's not worthed. But in the event of not getting both stages approved at the same time then you would need work permit to work. Also it is nice to have temporary sin before landing so you can work even after landing. Else you have to wiat until you receive you PR card in order to be eligible for SIN number

4:   Should we extend my husbands status? We did not send in an open work permit. I called immigration Canada a few weeks ago and they said that if you did not send in an open work permit then you have to re-apply to extend your status as it expires on Oct.11,2011. I called CIC again today and got someone on the phone today that was very knowledgeable and he said that not updating your status would not result in us not getting permanent residency. I don't know what to do. I have heard from so many people that you do not need to update your status when you have an application in process. Thoughts?


5:    Last question, I promise. If I want to send in additional documents. Where do I send it to and what should I write? Should I just put everything in an envelope and write our client ID number at the top of each page? Do I need to add any other forms with this?

So I called CIC today and got another amazing and knowledgeable person. They told me that if you did not send in your open work permit with your application and you want it added to your file then you could still send in the open work permit application and right an explanation of why you did not send it in originally. He said that it used to be that they will not add it but now they will add the open work permit as long as you send in an explanation. I got the same answer from 2 different people at CIC. I asked them both how long they had been working for CIC. One said 4 yrs and another said 5 yrs. So now, all my husband has to do is send the open work permit instead of renewing his status. I am so happy.

When you send additional documents what are some good things to do so it gets attached. Who should I put the attention to? I know to put my client ID number on every paper too.

That is great to hear that though I am sure that I explained that to you as well but I could see why you want it reaffirmed. Remember they are only agents and are not IO's. They do not actually know how the IO's handle materials once it gets to them. They can only reaffirm what is told by their boss, their manuals, the CIC website, and anything else in the computer database. Not saying their advice isn't right (in fact it is head on in this situation which is great) but just a heads up to others. And you did the wise thing in calling more than once. ALWAYS call more than once maybe even more than twice when trying to reaffirm and match what other agents recommend to be more confident in that their information is correct. Good job for you doing so angtao. On the letter along with mentioning why you didn't attach it before, also mention that you would now like it attached and NOT processed until time for AIP. They try to process it before then if you don't and say that you aren't eligible they forget he will be once he gets AIP. Also, get tracking on the documents mailed and hopefully e-Cas will later update saying when they attach it.

As far as advise goes for what else to write on there I always put the following: my name, husbands name, date of birth for both of us, country of citizenship for both of us, when application was received, when the application started processing, client ID #, etc. Basically list ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that can help them link it to your application. Be sure to make copies of everything you send and tracking to have proof that you sent it in case it is ever needed. And I can't remember but I do believe I wrote **Additional documents to be attached ASAP** on the outside envelope and on the letter I included. I also wrote on the letter my contact information in case it was needed. Hope this helps.

I also sent mine with the appl. and they took months after the AiP to add my Medical Receives on E-cas as well, that is common unfortunately.

Yes, we sent medicals in May 2011, today we called CIC and they acknowledge receipt but in does not show anything in ECAS, which is quit normal.

I am feeling a bit better lately but every time I seem to get better, something else happens so I take the good days as they come.
This past weekend I suddenly lost most of my vision, couldn't walk on my own, had numbness/tingling on one side, and passed out in the ER when I got there. I had to deal with those symptoms for well over 24 hours. I was terrified so I went to the ER. Luckily it didn't take long to get seen but was sent home. They ordered me a CT scan and I go for that Friday, hopefully it gives a hint into why this happened to me. And I have an ultrasound in September to figure out why I have had pelvic/abdominal pain for the past year. Feels like it is always something these days. So I have put off looking for a job until at least the CT scan is done or until my health is in better condition. I still have a lot of appointments left to do so I am afraid of getting a job and having to ask for too many days off early on. I don't want to make a bad impression you know. Sorry for rambling so much, lol. I appreciate you asking about me and I probably mentioned too much but ah well.

Really? I find this answer amazing and ridiculous at the same time!! How can they change the procedure again? The information I got was I CANNOT sent in OWP application until I get AIP, now they are saying it's ok? That's just driving me nuts! If I knew earlier I'd sent it in AGES AGO!! I want to work so bad because I am digging in my savings!What kind of explanation they need? Can I say CIC never give a clear instruction about the open work permit on the website alone with PR application?

How long does it take to process the OWP? I am close to getting my AIP, should I still waste the money to send one now?
