I couldn't log into ecas until June and it just confirms what I've said, although when I talked to an agent, they said they sent some form to be filled out in March, but I never got it.  I had to ask them to resend it.  Gotta love bureaucracy.

the fact that they sent u forms to fill in march is a good sign because it means that they had started processing your application much sooner than you thought. i'm pretty sure that is a glitch in the system and they had opened your application in october-november 2010, just being positive here...
what is not good is that u didnt receive the forms to fill, just another bad note on the postal system(or somebody took your mail that is even worse) i guess and it definitely slows down the waiting time for you, but be positive, maybe it is not as bad as it seems

Hi!

Does anybody know when an inland applicant can start to work:
- after a "decision made" notification;
- after receiving CIC letters with PR granting;
- after landing at local office (when applicant get a CORP);
- after getting SIN number?

I understand that I need in SIN number to work, but may be I can start to work right after getting a decision without waiting several months for landing/getting CORP and SIN number. What do you think?
Of course, this option includes the employer informing about getting SIN number soon.
Will this case be illegal?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

You can only work if you have your SIN.

You must have a SIN in order to work in Canada. It is illegal for anybody to employ you without a SIN. By law, employers must ask you for your SIN and a Canadian status document within 3 working days of the date you start your employment.

Hi lovely20, thank you for the answer!
That means we should wait 20 business days more to be able to work...

May be you know if it is also illegal to work for free before getting SIN number (like a volunteer).
If I find a work before landing and getting SIN, could I ask employer to start payments after getting my SIN number? So I will pay all the necessary taxes later. Is it illegal also?
Thanks.

Hey all!

Just a quick update - I did call last Friday and got the same answer as week prior - you should receive a letter at the beginning of August and we will let you know if anything else is required, blah-blah-blah. Frankly speaking I decided not to call them this month any more just not to get myself aggravated about the whole immigration thing again. Hope to have smth back from them in writing by the end of the month otherwise will call them first week of August.

Good luck to all! And patience, lots of it!

Stay tuned!

You can volunteer, it is not illegal because you are not being paid by anybody to do it.

What you can do is as soon as you receive your Open work permit, you can apply for your temporary SIN.  Some of the people here who landed were able to get their SIN on the same day, unfortunately in Alberta we can't do that.  We got approved on both stages at the same time although the OWP came a few days earlier.  What we did was to went to the nearest Service Canada and apply for temporary SIN so hubby can start working until we receive his PR card.  Then after we receive his PR card we will apply for a permanent SIN.

About paying the taxes later, I think that is still illegal.  Personally I won't risk it over a few hundred dollars, I mean you waited this long already better be on the safe side right?

Hi Latvian,

It is not my intention to make you feel pressured... but if I were you I would call them everyday. Since some people who sent their application in October are getting answers, there is no reason to think that you will have to wait until the end of the month to get a response. CIC agents said that probably because they are used to deal with anxious people who must call every 2 hours. Today is 19, there are 12 days to the end of the months... hopefully you will get good news before that.

Cheers

Sorry I'm just frustated. We got AIP since april. I submitted my police clearance third week of May, and still no comuncation or updates on e-cass.

Hopefully soon.

p.s. Good luck Eyesoftheocean. We are in the same boat Cry

We are on the same boat. I also got AiP in April, Police Checks were sent after 1 week of the AiP letter and I am still waiting for any update.

I call them and they say everything is correct, they will not require anything else but I have to wait.

The question is: wait for what?

It gets me and my wife VERY nervous about it...

Waiting? You're waiting for your file to plop down on someone's desk. For me, I find it comforting to know that I'm just a number. You've probably already gotten your police checks cleared and your file is waiting in line. That's all Immigraiton pretty much is for us; waiting.

CEC i am in your boat, we were approved April 12th, police checks sent last week in May but haven't been attached to the file. We have a tracking number from when we sent it. Do you think I should be worried it's not attached yet? When was yours attached?
