As an aside to Hakri's post, I applied for an extension to my visitor visa when I applied for my PR (in a separate filing) and I received a visitor permit with 2 years on it. Doesn't expire until 2013.

On the one hand that means they expect it to take this long and on the other I don't have to worry about status for a while.

Hi greghost

How long it took for you to get visitor permit and for how long u requested for in ur application.

I called the call center to check on some docs that we sent as per CIC's request and was informed that there was a backlog starting july for opening mail.  And if I sent something on august, I should expect it to be opened in a month or so... that doesn't sound encouraging Sad

geran, have you checked e-cas to see when your file went in process?

canadagirl, I got in ok.

naz, you can find out how long it takes on the cic website.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

Did you send it online or through the mail? As long as you sent it before your date on your visitor status or before your 6 months are up then you are ok.

Hi

I sent my visitor extension through post along with my PR Application. They rejected my Outland PR few months back coz I did not go back to Uk for the interview last time so they cancelled my visitor visa too. With rejection they said that I can again apply within Canada which I did. So I guess my case is complicated but can they do anything like deporting me even if my inland PR is in progress and my visitor extension is  applied? I m living with my Canadian wife and they have already accepted our relationship during Outland application .

Hope I explained it well.

I will be joining this group.

I have filled out all the necessary forms to apply PR for my wife. Since she is currently living here in Canada with me, I suppose I will be applying for the Inland Application.

I am the sponsor, and my wife is the principle applicant for PR.

Here are the forms I have completed:
(1) IMM 1344 (application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking)
(2) IMM 5481 (Sponsorship evaluation
(3) IMM 0008 (Generic Application Form for Canada)
(4) IMM 5669 (Schedule A)
(5) IMM 5285 (Spouse/Common-Law Questionaire)

Am I missing any forms that me or my wife should be filling out? I heard the Medical is not necessary until CIC request my wife to do an examination, right?

Additionally, my wife is currently waiting for her study visa extension to be processed.
It expired as of end of May 2011, but she applied for it in May 10 2011.
As of August 10 2011, we received a letter from CIC indicating the processing took longer than anticipated. The submission will be reviewed within 16 weeks from the date of the letter (which is August 10 2011).

That means she is legal to stay in Canada right now?

Another problem is, she is still waiting for acceptance from George Brown College for a program that does not start until Jan 2012, she was going to apply for the program that starts in Sept 2011, however, the school applied the program too late for her and it was application for Fall 2011 is already closed. Hence she can only apply for Spring 2012. Not too sure if that would affect her study visa permit.

From reading some posts within this thread, I have notice some of you applied for the visitor permit while waiting for the PR application to be processed. Additionally, I noticed you submit the visitor permit application along with the PR application.

Can someone eleborate on this?
Did you send in both different application within the same "mail"? Or did you submit "two mail", but submit at the same time?
Now, my wife originally was from China. According to the CIC site, she needs a "Temporary Resident Visa" and to apply for it, my wife needs to fill out the "•Application for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada " form (IMM 5257)" and a few other related form. So does this mean she can only apply for it back in China because she might need an interview back in China to get the Temprorary Resident Visa for Canada?

I am a little confuse on that, to put this in simple terms is:
If my wife is currently waiting for her study visa, and she is residing in Canada now. Also, we are working on the PR.
(1) Can she still apply for the visitor visa (I guess a.k.a. Temporary Resident Visa)? Will it conflict with the study visa application?
(2) Can she still apply for the visitor visa while in Canada? Any link or form I should be looking up to fill out?

Thank you for patience and time to do this long read. Even more appreciated to those that can shed some light and give me some feedback. I am worry as I don't want to be apart from my wife, and she is pregnant right now.

Regards,
Walter

Maybe I am missing something when I am reading. But I still have the following questions:

After reading the link, it mentioned some forms that was not included in the application kit when I am looking over the below link:
/english/information/applications/spouse.asp    (please make sure you add "h t t p : / / w w w . c i c . g c . c a" before the link and no spaces)

So am I filling out the needed forms, or do I need to fill out some other forms that isn't mentioned in the application kit as per the link I posted above?

*NOTE*: (The forms required as per the application kit within the link above only indicates the following form)
(1) IMM 1344 (application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking)
(2) IMM 5481 (Sponsorship evaluation
(3) IMM 0008 (Generic Application Form for Canada)
(4) IMM 5669 (Schedule A)
(5) IMM 5285 (Spouse/Common-Law Questionaire)
(6) Checklist

Unless I am understanding incorrectly, once I applied the sponsorship for my wife to become PR, does that mean she "automatically" have a visitor status in Canada while the application is being process?

Or should I submit another application (IMM 1249E) "Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay Or Remain In Canada" form along with the PR sponsorship application?

If I should, can I send both "different" application within the same "mail"? Or Should I send it in "two" separate mails?

By the way, do you guys use "Registered Mail" when you send in this applications? Should I add "Signature Required" or some sort of Tracking from Canada Post?

Sorry guys, I don't mean to sound lazy, please don't get the wrong impression. Just that there has been a lot happening recently, schedule is tight. So when I read, I might have skip something, so please accept my apology if I give you the wrong impression that I did not go over the links. Atleast I am trying to type my information here in a good manner so you all could understand.  Smiley My wife is pregnant, I am trying to fight for another position within work, and house hunting altogether does not make things easy for myself. I am trying to stay positive. I really need some encouragement. Thanks guys!

Is that I bolded where I am applying for the OWP portion for my wife? She is currently pregnant and I don't think any company would be hiring her, so would that affect her from applying an OWP?

The Medical examination and Police report is only done when they required us at later dates, right?
