Angus, you said that you also sent an open work permit after the application. When did Vegreville receive your OWP permit application?

Hello everyone!

I just arrived in canada about a month ago and i'm currently in the process of gathering all the necessary documents to send to Vegerville.

So far, i've completed all the application forms, but i'm still waiting for a police certificate for back home.

I have a couple of questions that maybe you could clear up for me.

I'm currently here on a visitor visa, which I take it means I can only stay in canada for 6 months, right? However, I read on the application guide that I can not leave the country after I've submitted my application, but I understand it takes 9-10 months alone for the initial phase of the application to be processed. So, my question is this...Will I not be in violation of any immigration law by remaining here for more than 6 months? or Will I receive any kind of paper from cic showing that I'm in the middle of an immigration process?

thanks very much for your help

Eddie - you can apply to extend ur visa based on the fact that you have applied for PR. Try and do this a few months before the 6months is up

Angtao - Oct 3. Here's hoping they add it!

thanks for the advice

i fear obtaining the police certificate will not be that easy for me, however.
i had my rep. from back home ask the authorities over there whether or not they could send me the certificate once i submit in a set of fingerprints and an official letter from the police here in canada.

They said that they would not release any info to cic unless I'm personally there to give them my prints.

Have any of you faced such problems before? since there is no way i can go back there again, i've decided to send them everything cic lists on its website on "how to obtain a police certificate from outside your country" and just see what happens.

By the way, the webpage includes in its list of required documents, a letter from the Canadian visa office requesting the certificate. Is that referring to the Appendix A on the info guide? Doesn't there need to be a seal or a signature to make it appear official?

Dear eddie11

First of all you need to submit your visitor extension application together with your PR application. In this case you do not need to be worry about permit expiry date since you and every one whose their applications are in process will have an implied status which allow them to stay here as long as CIC processes the application and make a decission.
For your police certificate also you need t justo contact your country's embassy and do the whole process through them. Every contry is diffrent but mostly just need to have finger print and send it back to the country for follow up.

Hello,

I'm Adrian, I'm married to a Canadian citizen, I have arrived in Canada (with a visitor status) on 24th of Sept, and we have sent the inland spouse sponsorship permanent residence application on October 11th, it has arrived at Vegreville on Oct 12th.

I wish I had known about this forum before we sent the application. The thing is, when we have paid the fees, we have paid the fee for work permit as well, but we didn't send an application for work permit in the envelope as well, as we figured that the immigration people will have more than enough information about us in the permanent residence application in order to take whatever pieces they need to issue the work permit.

I want to ask you,  - what application forms must be filled in for the work permit? Is it in paper form, or online? I have attempted to fill in the online application for work permit, but at some point they ask about job offer from employer and say cannot continue application without having Labour Market Oppinion.

I'd be grateful if you could tell me about the forms I need to fill in. To which address will I have to send the work permit application? I see that in Vegreville they have different postcode for permanent residence applications, and different postcode for work permit applications.  I would better send it to the address for permanent residence, so that they can add it more easily to the residence applications which they've received on Oct 12th, no?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Adrian.

HI Geran/Susan. When was your file received in Vegreville and when did it go in to process so I can add you to the list?

eddie, I was told by many many CIC agents that as long as you send in the open work permit with your permanent resident application, you do not need to extend your status. You will be on implied status. You will not be violating any immigration laws by remaining here for more than 6 months if you send in the OWP. You will not receive any kind of paper from cic showing that your in the middle of an immigration process. They already know.

Hi Adrian, you need to fill out the OWP permit application and send it in. You just leave that part out about the Labor Market Opinion and write at the top of the page for them not to process it until AIP. Hope this helps.

villacuba, I am not sure. When was your application received by Vegreville?

Hi angtao,

thank you for the reply.
sorry to bother you, but could you please tell me where is the paper form for the OWP application? (a link?).
As I'm not sure I have seen the correct one (I have a visitor status at the moment, had never had a work permit for Canada)

Which of the following is it
cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp
OR
cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

In the online form, I have to answer to the Labour Market Opinion question thing, otherwise i can't click 'continue' button. But if i answer that I need a labour market opinion, then it says that I cannot submit application if I need a labour market opinion. Very confusing.

thanks a lot.

canadagirl, the reason why you see people that sent there's in April and got approved in November is because back then the timeline was 6 months. I hope it goes back down again. I am praying for a 12 day jump this week like the old days. LOL.

omg... really... umm yes i pray for 12 day jumps again... Me and my wife really want to go to germany to see her family... Oh yes and finally take our hunnymoon somewhere OUTSIDE of canada:P Cool

Hi,

In order to file for Open Work Permit, you have to fill out this form, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM1249E.PDF  as it  also stays to "Remain in Canada". At the Question D, you would tick " Change Conditions" and state that " have applied for PR"

Also on top of the form,  make a note on the top of the OWP "not to process until first stage approval".

Hope that helps.

Regards.
