Has anyone here filed an application for an open work permit after they had already submitted their PR application and had the OWP approved?

My current work permit doesn't expire till May 2012, my PR app was received Jul 21, 2011 and I only found out yesterday (thanks to this forum) that I should have filed the OWP request with my PR application.

I had spoken with CIC at the beginning of 2011 about this and they hadn't mentioned this to me, if fact they said I just need to apply before my current one expires. But now I've heard that there is a chance it would get rejected and then I would be asked to leave Canada.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks

I have the same situation. I have sent my PR Application and in a month I sent my request for open work permit. Why do you think they may refuse it? On what ground?  Lips sealed

I sent my OWP off last week. Apparently I can call in 2 months and see if it was added - I will let you know!

First off, your OWP application will most likely be rejected. It is because immigration do not match up work permits and PR applications in process. I never heard of anyone having luck with the OWP attached to their application. You are not in a bad situation, your application should get to 1st stage approval by 2012 May, if not you can submit a change of conditions from work permit to visitor in case the OWP is denied. Keep in mind that you filed an inland application which means you won`t be ordered to leave the country if your WP runs out before your 1st stage approval. However, if you are out of status by the time of 1st stage your case will be transferred to a local office without having 1st stage approval and you can end up waiting much longer for that, years depending on your local office and you won`t be able to work in the meanwhile.
You may want to look at extending your current WP if it is possible.

Angus, I want to know if anyone has been successful in the past as well? Maybe post this question in the Inland 2010 thread?

Ditta, I called CIC many times regarding this question and they have all told me that now they allow the work permit to be added because so many people did not know that they could add it. We'll see if mine gets added. Angus, my OWP application reached Vegreville on Oct.3 but so far it has not been opened yet. We'll see.

It could be a great thing if they allow again to add the OWPs. I know in the past it was allowed, and honestly I think it still should be as there is nearly no information on the CIC website which even mention OWP regarding inland PR process. Wish you good luck with it and I hope it is going to be added to your file!

I did ask in the 2010 thread, but didn't get a response. From there I called CIC and I was informed to send the application with a letter of explanation. I have the agents name and ID number, so referenced that in my cover letter as well.

Only time will tell...
