If granted a TRV, it normally is valid for 6 months, meaning you have to use the visa and come to Canada or you would have to apply for another visa (TRV) if you had not used it within its validity period. Once you used the TRV and came to Canada, you would
normally be allowed a 6 month stay from the date of your arrival, even if you requested for a shorter stay.
Thank you for your reply, Job-seeker

As far as I seem to have understood from your post : My TRV will be valid for six months. However, my visit may be shortened say for a month or two and I can seek extension of my visit only that too only upto six months.
Please correct me if I am wrong there.
if I apply for 40-45 days visit, will I still be given TRV of full six months? If that's the case I wont have to seek extension at all since I aint willing to live there for more than 2-3 months.
Regards
