How does the credit scores from another country works in Canada................... if you have a good credit score in U.S. is it gonna help to get credit cards from Canada? What if you have a bad credit in U.S, how is it going to affect the canadian credit ratings.

Hope you will answer to this thread and this will help many people like me to understand the Credit scores in Canada.

As I know US credit score will not count for canada.
Start from NO Credit!
I have credit  above 730 score in US avg 730.

To build your credit score, get a secure credit card when you arrive here and do not allow Banks/Retailers talk you into applying for free credit cards (at least for the first 6 months) since those applications will be rejected and will then end up hurting your credit score.

Yup - US credit scores count for nothing.

My husband pretty much had the highest score possible in the US. Couldn't even get a credit card here at first without me counter-signing.

So what about bad credit history? Is it gonna count or not? Does my bad credit affects me getting credit cards/financing in Canada?

I know for example that American Express will allow you to transfer certain credit cards to Canada and help you build credit score

I talked to my credit card and although they are in Canada, they told me that I have to start from the beginning. Close the account here, and apply for secure credit card there. That means there is no connection between Canada and other country credit wise. You are new and fresh when you get to Canada.

But luckily I am able to transfer the financing of my Car to Canada. It was very easy. I just called them and they send me a bunch of paper work required for transfer.

Goodluck.
