Hi, I had been trying to get a Veterinary Assistant job in Canada for the past 2-3 years. I have plans to appear for board exams after I gain entry to Canada with a work permit. Though, everyone wants to appoint me in their Clinic/Hospital after going through my CV and experiences involved. All would eventually refuse when they come to know that I am not a landed immigrant or eligible to work in Canada at present. Gaining entry as a student is too expensive for me and I am not sure how much expense I will have to incur and how long it will take for processing if I apply directly for immigration under skilled worker. Any ideas ? can anybody help me out here ?

How about as an international student studying veterinarian science in Canada? You might be then eligible for the Canadian experience route.

Hi,
I am writing this as I am a vet with Master's degree from India. It is difficult to enter as veterinarian to Canada as you need DVM. Here are few options for you.
1.You can apply for another Master's here if you want to enter as student and then appear for NAVLE. 2. If interested in PhD then you can do in Pathology (good demand) and then appear for DVM certification. 3. Try to enter diploma programs (though very costly if you can afford)
You need not worry about money to take a program as you will be funded.
Cheers, Mohan

Thanks, a masters seems to be the most appropriate, diploma programs are expensive, a PhD unnecessary unless wishing to enter teaching and may require GRE too. Okay so you mentioned about ' no worries for funding' how ? The last time I talked with an immigration consultant-he said something about the need to take a student loan (some 90 % of the total expense) and prepare for 5-6 lakhs/year miscellaneous expense and blah blah blah. So what is this all about ? "You need not worry about money to take a program as you will be funded."

Hi Rinku,
Please don't go to consultant if you want to apply for Master's. Here in Canada Master's degree admission is based on the availability of projects. Try to go through university websites and find the appropriate faculty with whom you are interested to work with. If they like your profile and if matches to their project needs they will ask you to do formal application to University. If you get Master's through this way you will be paid Research Assistantship which would be around minimum 16500 CAD/YR. Apart from this you can do TA and will be paid more. All this money will be sufficient to pay your fees and for living.
If you need further assistance I can help you.

@ RINKU,
Dr Mohan is absolutely right,My Brother -in -law is also a Verterinarian(Surgeon) presently working in a hospital in Calgary,Alberta. He got position in the research lab under UOC. He was able to get GTA to the extant that was good enough to meet his entire expenses covering tuition fee nd maintainance expenses ,as well. U should exlplore opportunity in THE UNIV OF CALGARY,UNIV OF Manitoba nd UNIV OF GUELPH,ONT, the last two may help u getting a chance, GOOD LUCK.GOD BLESS ALL !!!! PARHAR51
