I did my landing last year (2010) and planning to move to Canada next year (2012) or before. My question is do I have to pay any income tax for those two years I'm outside Canada or do I start the day I shift permanently ?
My second question is, when am I eligible to apply for my Child benefits ? is it from the day i do the landing or from the day i shift permanently and is this related to the taxes i pay ?

Did you establish your residency ties in Canada?  If so, you should file a tax return.  How much you gonna to pay depends on this tax return.

You usually become tax-resident in Canada when you move here to live.  Any income earned before this date is not taxable in Canada.

You can apply for CCTB once you become tax resident.  You will need to tell the CRA your overseas earnings for the part of the year before you became tax-resident and the year before that.  This is because the CCTB is based on prior year's income.  However, you only need to tell the CRA for CCTB purposes.  Not for tax.

Thanks steaky and Jonboy for your replies.. you answered my question.

I don't consider myself established residency ties yet as I only visited twice, once for the landing and the second time was only a visit.
