I am currently in USA and hold an L1A visa working in the IT Industry for the last 10 years now. My husband is a post-grad with a reputed university in the US. We are both looking for permanent residency in Canada. However before we apply , I have some questions ... first one ...

Will the Canadian government try to contact my current employer ? I do not want my employers to get wind of my long term plans.

Would be glad to know of your experiences around this.

The canadian government will not contact your employer but one of the requirement for applying PR is to be able to prove that you are really working on the company you mention on the application. This would require to produce an employment certificate OR maybe W2/paystub.
