Hi
I am an Indian citizen, i had applied for Canadian immigration 6 years back, i am currently in the United states working on h1b visa.
My immigration procedures are almost through, i finished my medical, and recently i got a letter from canadian consulate new delhi
which says that i need to submit my passport in a months time inorder to initiate immigration proces further.Since they have told me
to submit my passport, i think i might get a stamp and PR papers, not sure, but it looks like i am at the end of my process.

Currently i am in the united states and working on a critical project, i have been told to submit my passport by Sep 19, currently
I have a project  deadline in US till nov end, hence i cant  go to india right now and submit my passport nor can i send my passport by post to India since i am in another country its not legal to post your passport(thats what i have heard). I have sent a letter to canadian
consulate mumbai asking them to request an extension in december, so that once my deadline is over in november end, i can
goto india and finish my immigration formalities.

I wish to know if there is any other way out to waiver the sep 19 passport submission deadline and get extended or send my passport
through some other means, is it really illegal to post your passport, cant we fedex the passport? Please let me know what are the options?

I have heard that it's illegal in India to mail your passport but possibly you can send it by other means.  Why do you not ask the Embassy of India in the US?  Maybe they can send it for you by secure means.

Are any of your family members planning on visiting you? They could take it with them back to India if they did.

Hi
Refer to Leon's reply.

It is possible to send the Passport from USA to India through the Indian Consulate in USA.
Since you are sending it to another Official department, should be OK

I think that any one taking the above bit of advice should contact the local Indian Consulate first.
