Ahh, the sponsorship part of the application takes 32 days. Would be too good to be true if that was all. This is just to get you approved as a sponsor. The time for first stage approval and work permit if you applied for one is 6 months, you can find that here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#perm_res and eventually after 14 months, your wife should get PR. This is the time it normally takes. I seriously doubt you can do anything to speed it up. Wouldn't be fair towards everybody else who is also waiting.
If your wife is currently on a visit visa or visa exempt, you have to make sure you send for a visit visa extension before it expires. Include all the info for the PR so they know to link it together. If you didn't apply for an open work permit for her but would like to do that too, you can send that in at the same time and make sure you write on it that you request the work permit when her PR application gets first stage approval because she will not qualify for a work permit sooner.
It is not adviced to leave Canada while the application is in process since if she was refused entry for whatever reason, the application and all the waiting goes out the window.
