i came to canada 4years ago with a student visa but it expired a year ago already. i am planning to fly back home in february. when i leave canada do i have to pay a fine or something in canada or in my country? what if even my passport expired too when i leave canada next year?

it is trouble for sure but you can manage it. I would suggest instead of waiting till Feb and paying the fine at airport(i don't think there is any fine but you can get deported as you don't have a valid passport or visa to buy ticket to your home country) you should consult a immigration attorney and explain your case they are the best people to give you suggestion and help you. Please don't be scared if you r in a trouble you have to make efforts to come out of it else you will only increase it.
Have faith in god and try your best

2.  But no airline is going to carry him/her without a valid passport.

JUST  RENEW YOUR PASSPORT AND RETURN HOME
CANADA WILL SEE THAT YOU OVERSTAYED
SO I DOUBT U WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN TO CANADA.
