Hi,

My sister and her family applied for thier PR cards 3 years back. She is now in Canada with her children. My brother in law has to move from Qatar to Canada. In Qatar, you need a Travel permit from the Sponsor and he is left the country and will be back only after Eid. Thier 3 years maximum duration would expire on 13th nov. However, when they had applied for PR cards, they stayed 6 weeks in Canada. Would this 6 weeks count in the maxmimum period of three years allowed to stay out of country? Because technically three years lapse on 13th Nov, and he cannot travel before 21st Nov,2011. My Question is, Would these 6 weeks that he stayed in Canada be counted and he would be allowed entry on 21st Nov?Please reply at the earlieast and many thanks in Advance.

Hi,
i have a question in the same way. How many years have been allowed to stay outside of canada without to loose the permanent status resident?
My PR visa is valid until august 2011. I will activate it on Juni 2011 and turn back in Germany. I want to immigrate definitely in year 2013 or 2014. will my status going to be lost if Iam going to canada in 2014 without any entries in the years before?
Thanks for the replies

One require to stay 2 years in the period of 5 years to maintain PR status. It can be in one stretch or broken also. Total days should not be less than 2 years.

Immigration officers dont even feel comfortable letting any Canadian PR or Citizen to stay away from Canada for more than 3 months. They are suspicious on them. so its better to live there for 3 years and then move around.

Keeping your permanent resident status

Your permanent resident status allows you to live in Canada, but there is also a time limit on how long you can live outside the country. To keep your status as a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at least two years within a five-year period.

For further information on residency obligations, please see Appendix A of Applying for a Permanent Resident Card.

Jnathan,

Can I know the source of information when you say "Canadian Immigration officers are suspicious of Immigrants and Citizens when they stay for more then 3 months out of the country"? Is this documented somewhere or is this your own personal guess?

Thanks.

My Own brother had to face strict questionnaires about his 4 months stay in Singapore.
