Immigration and Labour Shortages Top Concern for Businesses in Alberta

Immigration and labour shortages are the main federal budget issues raised during consultations by Public Works Minister Rona Ambrose with local business leaders.

In a pre-budget meeting with a half-dozen business people in Alberta on December 19, 2011, the Public Works Minister indicated that she was keenly aware of the labour shortages there. The federal government has already increased the number of immigrants and Canadian temporary foreign worker visas to the province.

"Alberta is in a very unique situation ... We're experiencing phenomenal growth, and with that growth comes huge demands on business", Ambrose said.

However, businesses in Alberta say that this still isn't enough and employers are having difficulty finding people to fill various Canadian jobs. The Minister has suggested the government might need to boost training for groups facing unemployment and underemployment, such as the aboriginal community, or to encourage Canadian citizens without sufficient work to move there.

"There's a balance between immigration and finding ways to support Canadians who still remain unemployed and underemployed in this country."

The provincial unemployment rate was five percent in November, the lowest in Canada. This means that there has rarely been a better time to migrate to Canada for work. To sustain its economic growth, Alberta requires an adequate supply of immigrant workers with the right knowledge and skills.

I don't understand. In that case, why are the rules so strict. I sent an enquiry to Alberta PNP asking them about my option. I am planning to come to Alberta through IEC program - Working holiday visa and take a course for certain occupation which is in demand. After that I am planning to work in that occupation on an entry level and after 6 months, I can apply for AB PNP if I have a job offer. They told me that I need at least 2 or 3 years of experience befor I can apply for Employer driven stream program.

problem is that frauds are increased day by day.they only aware  and alert for their country.agents earn money by doing wrong things and people like us suffer because of them. i am punjabi  but sorry to say that mostly punjabies are involved  in fraudulant cases
